Shepard Fairey finds himself in another controversy. The "HOPE" AP photo being the most famous one. Before today, an artist claimed he had stolen her version of the woman flicking her finger (I didn't think so at the time)... Today, another artist claims that the orange (fruit) grenade idea has been stolen not once, but twice from him.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to LA MOCA... Where, unbeknownst to me, there was a section dedicated to a Mrs. Sturtevant... AND I would not have known her works were not original works by the "original" artists... She was that good at copying... And apparently, that WAS the art... The art of copying.
Before then, I was perusing FAKE's work on his site... And I found an image that was very similar to JBoy's latest print... Y'all know that JBoy was accused of copying Banksy's sculpture (copper on a mechanical horse?)... But did he? Or did s/he copy Fake's punk riding seahorse (Spring Rider)?
Sorry folks, but the topic of derivative (stolen) art fascinates me.
Carry on.

Carry on. fascinates me too, both the execution, and the legalities. copyright law was my favorite class in school. the appropriation thread is one of my favorites on the forum It's such a great area for both what the law and fans accept. Seems to be that the better the artist, the more accepting we are

I heard there has to be a min 30% differential between the "copied" piece and the original for legalities to be applicable, what a headfuck
