I was well into the mod revival.. Stay press trousers, Ben Sherman shirts, leather loafers.. I was 11 years old  stealing my mums Menthols cigarettes and drinking strongbow and listening to the jam, the who and the kinks... For me it was Ska/Two Tone. In 1981, on my eleventh birthday I bought my first two tone trousers, my Harrington and my first single (Specials, Ghost Town). Cool. As. Fuck.
Edit - in the interest of full disclosure I also bought Toyah Wilcox, I Want to be Free and, erm, Marvin, The Paranoid Android from the cheap bin with the last of my birthday money...

I found Mod as an impressionable 14 year old kid just as The Style Council were ending and Weller was starting again. It hasn't left me... They'll bury me a Mod.

I was never a mod and will never be a mod. Whilst some of the music is cool.. The fashion was not there for me , I ain't no follower of fashion , as Ray still does say. Still I do... However have a pair of Solovairs  |
