Castor Gallery is pleased to present Duality, an exhibition of new works by French artist, Ludovic Vernhet. This will be the artist’s first solo show with the gallery, featuring works of varying sizes and an installation in the lower level of the space. The artist will be in attendance for the opening reception on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 7-9 pm. Known for his signature green and achromatic works displayed in cities including London, Italy, and New York, Vernhet’s oeuvre combines elements of nature with mechanical parts to create hybrid creatures that evoke socio-political conversations, usually exploring themes of life and death, as well as time. For Duality, Vernhet experiments with the notions of the past, and the future, while also drawing attention to mankind’s fascination with beauty and violence. This exhibition will focus on a contemporary take of a Renaissance still life portrait. The banality and simple elegance of a still life composition with its carefully planned out arrangements of fruits and vegetables take on a different form through Vernhet. The fruits and vegetables take on a biomorphic quality – mixing their natural elements with mechanical attributes – while still maintaining the essence and structure of traditional still life composition. The exhibition will be on view at Castor Gallery until November 10, 2015.
