That Petrol Bomb belongs to Framing Devil. I was looking for a petrol bomb poster so I can get it framed like that. No luck with the poster...

I'm a bit torn on the subject of elaborate framing. I think some examples that I've seen look nice and compliment the piece, but overall, I don't like someone other than the artist working on an "extension" of the actual art.
I prefer simple framing for my own collection, as I feel it lets the artwork itself do the talking.

I was thinking about getting a piece done like that Roamcouch, with the colors extended onto the matting. Is that generally done by just getting someone to paint the matting?

Great thread idea. This isn't really crazy like the above but was pretty proud of myself for happening upon this frame at Trinity. It's almost too perfect for the print, IMHO anyway. If nothing else, it's a departure from my standard white on white so that makes it somewhat noteworth. http://instagram.com/p/03XbQJgG6H

Share ideas for framing here. A few things I have come across on IG: The smoke box idea is pretty sweet, I may have to try something like that for a burnt edition of Icy & Sots Molotov

Must confess I am with alittle in that I always use white box frames. Although did break my own rule recently on a piece that needed a black box frame and have bought a couple of pieces with black frames etc. Like I like to let the art do its work that's not to say do not appreciate some of the more elaborate framing people do some works. On framing though have shown this on the old forum as had for a long old while I have a couple of round Murakami prints that I got round frames made for....must confess was worried a bit at the time but glad I went that way when they came back

thought I'd post this here too. This piece is on thick aluminum - I ended up framing it with a "Uni-Frame". It's basically a set of adjustable brackets (tied together with a rope in the back) and cost only about $15. They come in two sizes - 10-20" and 20-40" You can get them on Amazon

I am also like alittle and johnnyh, and prefer plain/simple frames. The funkiest I have gone is for my Spanish Passion, which is still pretty simple.

@jettad, I don't mind something like that; just a bit of flair up close. The aesthetic is still very clean and doesn't take away from the art.

Although I admire those crazy custom frame jobs, I agree with the simplistic framing notes above. Trinity framing has done some great stuff from what Ive seen. Always loved the Fashion Chimp they did:

Trinity Framing are the best around! They do a lot of framing for Espo/Steve Powers. Heading over there later this week assuming my print has flattened sufficiently by then.

In my early days of collecting I went over the top with custom framing trying to mimic the look of prints for sale on POW with the generic frame preview. Spent way too much money and time deciding on frames. I also ran into instances where I was unhappy with the final product and had to pay to reframe the piece. I have since transitioned to either black or white frames with a white mat, or float mounting on white mat board for all but two pieces. Not sure whether I should eventually reframe them or not. Here are a couple of pics.

They look great to me greekboy. Is that the Brett Hart piece that's been for sale on and off the last few months or was that someone else?

Thanks guys. No, the Bret piece for sale is from a member called thetruth, or something along those lines.
