Martha Cooper is giving a talk at Central St Martin's in London entitled ' Chasing Visual Play' about the place of play and visual practice in our shared urban places. Martha will also be joined by Marcus Barnes, who some might remember was unsuccessfully prosecuted for 'encouraging the commission of criminal damage' for publishing Keep The Faith magazine. It was her street play photograph of a girl on a swing which provided her 'in' to the graffiti scene and which made Subway Art possible because in the background there is one of Dondi's 'CIA' tags. But I think Street Play itself was a brilliant collection of works and her play series more than hold up in its own right; I love the serenity and balance of the kid doing a flip surrounded by the chaos and decay around him Anyway, the talk is at 6:30 on 5 Feb 2016 in the LVMH Lecture Theatre (E002) at Central Saint Martins in London. The talk is timed to coincide with a couple of other exhibitions. She has a show entitled ' Life Work' at Stolenspace opening the night before and Central St Martins have an exhibition entitled ' Graffiti and Street Art Dilemmas' exhibition at CSM.
