Haven't had the opportunity to chat with all of you I see regularly on here, but the guys that I have....well they've all been incredibly kind. I get a thrill every time Roy wins a giveaway or finds a cheap frame for his collection. I hope Json finds that elusive mint Colored Trolleys...& for a steal. And well Fred....I at the least hope to find him the album. And if I can't get a 2nd, I'm sure there's someone out there just dying to trade a signed Del Naja paste up or 'In Europe' for a Fairey/D*Face collaboration. Now that's optimism for ya my friend. Lol. In all seriousness tho, I owe Fred many thanks for many things so he definitely comes first!!!

Please, does anyone remember Massive Attack changing their name in the early 90s? I'm sure i remember venturing into 'Our Price' in the Cascades shopping centre in Commercial Road, Portsmouth and seeing 2 versions of a single, or album, alongside each other. One emblazoned with the name 'Massive Attack' and the other simply with 'Massive'. I'm sure i remember my friend telling me it was due to the so called 'gulf conflict'. Did i dream this? Seems nuts.

They changed it to Massive for 6 months to get airplay. See BBC and Bomb the Bass for similar lunacy.

Is cascades still there? I lived in Southsea for a couple of years, I think 92/93. A few messy times down there. I went to the pyramid centre to see the Orb, which was a mad night. Also a few gigs and raves at the guildhall, but they are a bit of a haze.

No you didn't dream it. I remember seeing them on telly explaining the name change was a protest to the GW. I'm also sure bomber88 is correct in saying that this was very much due to media pressure at the time (airplay), keeping 'current events' squeaky clean and not in the least bit threatening.

Still there, though some of the attention has now drifted toward gunwharf quays, the navy has surrendered areas for redevelopment, and it has thrived. Although, as a Southsea boy, you'll be happy to know that Palmerston Rd and the Wedgewood rooms are still going strong. The pyramids are still there and the guildhall continues to host people who are pilled up/stoned/fucked out of their faces.

Next to some dodgy nightclub above a whimpy. Unfortunately, never made it to the wedgewood rooms, although I don't think it had any good bands while I was there. I will have to go back some point and check it out.

Stayed next to one for one night in Bangkok, it would have shaken my fillings out (if i had any) and if i hadn't been out on the town, being cool (obvs).

I spent the majority of my time stoned on the sofa, so nightclub was no problem, wimpy was handy though

new re-issue earcandymusic.biz/massive-attack-heligoland-2x-lp-vinyl2018 reissue in a deluxe heavy, glitter accented jacket - The sound of Massive Attack circa 2010 has some similarities to what the group has done in the past, but overall, this represents a radical shift in music-making. Granted, most of the Massive Attack hallmarks are still here: gripping music laden with tension and dread, a production that sounds fathoms deep, and an insular worldview represented by a cast of vocalists both new and old. (The new voices include Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Elbow's Guy Garvey, and TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe.) What's immediately apparent, however, from the opener "Pray for Rain" is the sparseness and understated air on display here. With Adebimpe on vocals, the track begins with a rattling of bones and a resigned air whose closest predecessor is "In a Lonely Place" by New Order (a group who practically defined the word understated with their music prior to 1982). This certainly isn't the Massive Attack that floated the smoothest British house of the early '90s, and more surprisingly, it's also not the Massive Attack that created dense, immersive trip-hop during the '90s and early 2000s. At times, it's clear that Robert Del Naja and Neil Davidge's work on soundtracks during the 2000s has adversely affected their main project, resulting in music that skirts the background as often as not. Heligoland often sounds like a soundtrack, most likely the score to some dystopic thriller such as Children of Men or 28 Days Later.
