Hi all,
Is it me, or does there appear to be a lot of seemingly 'Dodgy' Banksy prints on the bay recently? Either No COA 'applied for, will send on after it's received', people with 0 feedback selling lowish priced prints with no authenticity etc... Has it got to the point where some scrupulous people, as ever, are waking up to the big money to unsuspecting people with little knowledge of the actual authenticity process.
Just wanted to bring it up to help protect some of the newer guys'n galls trying to step on the lower rungs....
Thoughts?

Thoughts? anyone buying a Banksy print without a COA (and I'd say confirming with PC) is asking for trouble, but you're right some new fans might not know to be careful have a link for any of them?

So what does one do? I don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm a novice when it comes to buying a Banksy second hand. A reputable gallery is preferable compared to an eBay seller. I would imagine that you would worry less buying it from a gallery than the bay.

This particular listing is interesting. The seller has a Stop and Search for sale, and claims to have a 'Pest Controlled' COA in his name in hand. If this is true, then both Banksy's are wildly underpriced at the moment. My thinking is that if one is legit (note the "if"), then the other might likely be as well. At any rate, I'm following both auctions with great interest.

I would imagine that you would worry less buying it from a gallery than the bay. A gallery selling a Banksy print without the COA seems a bit daft. I would avoid an outfit like that just on principal. Even if a gallery has a COA for the print, I would still go through the process of confirming the owner with Pest Control.

this has been discussd earlier- given the emergence of a massive stash of banksys up to c. 2008 or so, there are shitloads of iffy prints around. many will have been numbered and managed to slip through the system to get a PC. Others are still kicking about , many are on walls as the collectors are happy to have the image for a sonderpreis and are not concerened about flogging it.only buy with a PC and ideally a paper trail. IF anyone is selling , even galleries, without a PC, ask why.
Manufactured paperwork such as TomTom or Greenleaf is the paper trail of choice for the fraudsters these days

I know of one print recently which was a duplicate number to a print which had already been issued with a coa. After considerable investigation it turned out both were legit. So these quirks do happen.

easy - only buy from a reputable gallery (or reputable forum member). stay away from fleabay, gumtree, ioffer or anyplace else. Not worth the risk

I have bought 4 Banksys off Ebay in the past and have had no troubles at all even one from the other side of the world !
As long as you get the sellers name, print number etc, contact Pest Control and ask if print X number X is registered to Mr X from Xbridge
If they confirm the match and your happy with condition etc and you really want it go for it.

ffs. WCP is clear on the fake part, and plenty of markings to say it's not real...these are getting close to the line where even I could buy one and emboss it and remove the dodgy marking....scary

Glad I could help treweman Thanks for the info @iggywiggy I contacted the seller regarding the Trolley Hunters print as I am avidly looking for one. He told me something along the lines of the print is 100% authentic. (Don't they always say that) He bought the print on Ebay a while back. He tried to apply for a COA. PC told him that a COA had already been issued to the person he bought it from on Ebay. He tried to get in touch with the previous owner again but they didn't answer him. So, in effect, you might as well buy a WCP as you'll never be able to get a new COA or the original one from the original owner to whom it was issued.

If you check back on that eBay seller ultrasupersniper's feedback you'll see that he's bought quite a few prints from WCP.....the plot thickens.
