"Meeting with Simurgh" for POW!WOW! WorcesterThis mural is based on the storyline of ancient Persian poem “Conference of birds”. According to poem’s storyline birds arrange a meeting where they are to decide who will be their tzar. After disputes hoopoe proposes them to find legendary simurgh to offer him this title. Hoopoe, who is considered to be the wisest among birds, leads a group of thirty birds, each of them represents some drawback preventing a person to reach serenity. They go to look for the habitation of simurgh and have to overpass seven valleys. The poem ends when they find this habitation which is a big lake. Looking into the waters of lake birds see their reflections only. The name of the poem is based on the word-play: simurgh, the name of legendary bird from Iranian mythology is concordant with Persian si morgh which means “thirty birds”.
