anyone else see that he's doing a touring 3D sound installation of his new record?!? hoping he makes it over here... would love to see it. still kicking myself for skipping the David Byrne/Eno tour (that Eno didn't go on)

Brian Eno Announces Titanic-Inspired Solo LP 'The Ship'

Ambient pioneer covers Velvet Underground's "I'm Set Free" on first solo album in four years

Ambient music pioneer and producer extraordinaire Brian Eno has announced his new album The Ship, his first solo LP in four years. According to Eno, the Titanic disaster inspired the album's 21-minute title track and its three-tiered suite "Fickle Sun," which finds Eno covering the Velvet Underground's "I'm Set Free." The album, described as a "musical novel," also features a poem read by actor Peter Serafinowicz. The Ship arrives April 29th.

"On a musical level, I wanted to make a record of songs that didn't rely on the normal underpinnings of rhythmic structure and chord progressions but which allowed voices to exist in their own space and time, like events in a landscape," Eno said in a statement. "I wanted to place sonic events in a free, open space."

Lux, Eno's last solo LP, arrived in 2012; two years later, he partnered with Underworld's Karl Hyde for a pair of albums. Unlike the entirely instrumental Lux, Eno's vocals are back in the forefront for The Ship, marking the first time since 2005's Another Day on Earth that Eno has sung on a solo LP. Eno previously produced and released Gavin Bryars' The Sinking of the Titanic in 1975.

The Ship concludes with Eno's take on the Lou Reed-penned "I'm Set Free," a Velvet Underground track that the producer has long credited with inspiring him as an art student in the late-Sixties. In addition to the album, a series of Eno installations have been planned around the world where fans can hear an alternative telling of The Ship in multi-channel three-dimensional sound installations.

The album is available to preorder in a variety of formats, including LP, Collectors Edition CD and a limited edition colored vinyl. Visit Eno's official store for more information.

Seen a few of his installations over the years they really are superb

Expect this tone superb as well. Also love his apps and stuff massive fan of his works

There was a brilliant one of his music and views of the solar system at the national history museum in London in Feb when I was over there really amazing stuff sound and images

Nearly all my Eno stuff is on plastic from many years gone by. But love these two massive podcast compilations of his work. Which often play as mooch around. He he how often do you come across a good Brian Eno compilation......concept almost does not fit but really good. If you have never got into Eno good to just put on and leave and it will grow on you

Indeed they are , the works themselves are quite impressive , they go well with the music.

I visited the show this afternoon, checked out the lenticular works as well and bought one.
They're at the original print fair this coming weekend - there's a few left for anyone interested.

Apparently the interview lasted around an hour , shame ch4 didn't put more up on youtube.
