and then walking down another alleyway I found this.... its an alleyway where numerous pieces have been destroyed, so maybe a very new piece is a little convenient with the exhibition just two days away? The first piece just felt too curated with the video et all. This piece is certainly new. Thoughts?

The video seemed quite staged to me, looks like the image has well and truly been gone over Didn't look real to me

certainly staged. to drum up publicity for the exhibit i assume? there are tons of Banksy's in Melbourne authenticvod - definitely many umbrella rats, though I don't know what condition they're in. I can dig up some pictures if you want to see them

Im sure that video must be staged, knowing the marketing machine that is the Lazarides brand, I wouldn't doubt the video was staged. this, however wasn't there recently, as I walk down here often. It is on a new door on a new pub. The door itself is about the only thing not painted on in the st. I guess just trying to point out new works are appearing, by Banksy or not....

"Tickets range from $10 to $70." $70 just for seeing some Banksy prints and canvases??!? Come on Steve...

adnate had produced some great work. So what do you see for $10? Compared to $70? Well the Adnate is free to see... so for $4.00 you can take a beer down there and enjoy the same work as those paying $14 for a pimms, $30 for a ticket, and still see the Adnate, psalm etc...if you're happy to stand on the 'outside' So still digesting it all.... but maybe easier to break it down to a very simple list of pros and cons at this stage Pros - saw some pieces today that I have not seen in person. These being in print mainly. - fairly decent range of early print works - they sell alcohol, and it was a nice day Cons - Not a heap of recent pieces. (a given considering the supposed spat between steve and B) - Exiting through the tacky gift shop was just horrible, and expected - Seeing how much people bought was even more so Short conclusion I, probably like many of you, have been lucky enough to either see/experience/purchase/follow this artist for a while, in which case it is a pleasant refresher of some of the early pieces that had many enamoured with a challenging presentation/world view. It's nearly like a pleasant walk down memory lane. Not to dismiss the artist at all, but to just make comment on the exhibition, its content and curation. Knowing that, like myself it is easy to think that this is just a sell out exhibition, it will also provide many with an experience they also would never get otherwise. And if it encourages a few young instateens to think for themselves (and there were lots of teens there today) about what art and the world is, then ok? the irony is not lost on me that their parents paid a little too high a price for the entrance. Melbourne, however, has an abundance of street art, and some of it is actually thought provoking, although more is becoming financed, just like this exhibit. I enjoyed it. But I didn't feel challenged by it, hopefully others will. Because if what is essentially protest art is neither challenging nor a retrospective, then what is it? pics videos to come

I would imagine The reason he is so disliked by Banksy these days is that he has lots of missing bits and stuff he would not give back after the fallout

Jack and Jill, colour bleed/error print? I believe that's part of the pink edition 22. The last handful of them or so have blue streaks to the sides which seems to bother some (i dig the effect personally) as the pink began to run out.

Thanks for all the pictures! In the third picture I think I can see two grannies prints. What's the point of hanging two identical prints so close to each other? One signed and one unsigned? Or are there two different grannies versions out there?

Or are there two different grannies versions out there? In this case, from memory, I think one was an AP and the other Signed. There were some strange decisions like that, but other times when it worked. i.e. morons and trolleys in the multiple colourways. I have seen a lot more original works, particularly from the Crude Oils exhibit, displayed by Laz as recently as two years ago... not sure why most of them didn't make it over

The fact he is still monetizing it shows how much a part of that he was.
