I recently bought my first Banksy (Silver Flag) and it took me quite a while to find one that wasn't creased, ripped or covered in finger prints.
I looked at three others before finding the one I wanted.
I know this print is easily damaged and marked so how many undamaged ones do you think are out there? Is it around 1 in 4 or was I unlucky / too fussy? What about other Banksy prints? We all know how cheap they were once and how badly treated / framed some of them were.
Not an easy one to answer I know but be interesting to hear any opinions.

I would say anything pre 2005-06 is a lot less likely to find in Mint condition, somewhere after that collectors and investors started to see the increase in value so was obviously looked after much better to protect there value. Its not uncommon to here about Rude Coppers and Laugh Now having pin holes in them!!!!

May I ask what this "flaming arseholes" is? Seriously. 'You light a rolled up tube of newspaper and stick it between your buttocks while bent over with your pants around your ankles. Then you have to shuffle from the start line to the finish line without dropping the "Torch". If you drop the torch you're up shit creek and will suffer a penalty ranging from having to start over to getting doused with beer before having to start over again.'

I won't ask "why" , but how popular is this flaming arsehole thing, it does have name, and people can explain the activity?

I was lucky enough to pick up a signed Have a nice day a couple of months back, the print never seen daylight! Absolutely 100% pristine stored flat between acid free paper and boards since purchase, never seen a frame every edge/corner as crisp as the day it was made not a mark on it!
They are out there, just have to hunt them down!

It's origins lie in an initiation ceremony into the priesthood before spreading into convents as part of the 'Palm Sunday' celebrations.

honestly, I think in fifty years, when only the best artists from this generation are being shown in museums (I'm thinking Banksy, PINS, and maybe a few others), condition won't matter as much as it does to collectors now. I don't think MoMA would get too worked up if a Warhol Soup Can showed up with a few dings around the edges

I am as bad as everyone else in that i want any new print to be be immaculate / mint / fresh with all 4 corners sharp. Other non urban / street collectors do not get as hung up as we all do.

it's just another differentiator. you'll notice dealers are not in anyway as fussy as so called collectors... could be that collectors fear the dealers may knock em down .. if they ever need to sell.. which a good percentages of the time.. they do .. eventually. dealers on the other hand 'know' what they're looking for , and what can be done.. if something turns up and it's not quite .. right. in a few years.. like most of us think... things might be different an i've no doubt they will be - but in what way my framer said to me earlier.. so tauba do you think she'll mass produce and be damned with all the 'profiteering' ? he was not joking... as he said - this is what happened early on ... in the print world. as to tauba - i don't think so..she's moved on... weaving now. (where the thread ?)

i remember a few years back - buying a liita / u .. for just under a k... got it out of the tube to find pinholes and blu tac residue ... back it went.. refund eventually. ..it's worth a fair wedge now... i ought to advise the seller ... would you ? (aaaaaahhhhh there hangs a thread for you eh ? )
