Thought I'd post this although many of you have seen it already through my Instagram feed. Not many layers to this one and it's a test spray for someone so the colours are to order from someone else that wanted a 60's/ Shep Fairey feel. He likes it and has given the go head for the images final placing so a result so far. 8 layer handcut stencil on 6mm plywood.

Always good to get feedback of any sort so many thanks fellas. Very nervous about the next step in this stencils evolution, still prepping it now but I'll post images if everything turns out well. If not I'll forget I ever attempted it.

What you nervous about? Going bigger or more detailed or something?

Nah never worried about that. It's going on a bass guitar for a friend that's going on tour next month. So potential TV and festival exposure... It's gotta look good.

Dude… did I see an IG picture where the image continued all the way to bottom of frame? I think I preferred it that way rather than 'cut out' at the bottom. It's awesome, mind… but just some feedback.

Dude… did I see an IG picture where the image continued all the way to bottom of frame? I think I preferred it that way rather than 'cut out' at the bottom. It's awesome, mind… but just some feedback. The ape has always been this size due to the image it's taken from, although I now wish I'd created a little bit more of the arm now I've painted this version. But because I knew that mostly all that would be seen on the final placing on the guitar would be the face I figured the arm wouldn't matter. Idiot. The board size was a touch bigger but I trimmed that down to tidy it up a little. It took longer than expected to get the right image so I missed out on the chance to get the bass ready for Bez's election campaign gig in Manchester a few weeks back so I need to get my finger out for the tour.

I love it. Some very good skills there. Also the phrase 'Just prepping the Jazz Bass for some monkey action' sounds so very wrong.

Thanks fellas. Awkward shape to paint and plan detail. Don't wanna do another that's for sure.

Thanks Aza, looking forward to seeing it on stage. It's for a good friend of my that played in the Happy Monday's and was instrumental in them getting back on the road a few years ago. He's now playing with Black Grape on their tour that begins next month so really wanted it to work out.

Well the bass is currently on tour somewhere in the UK so I've started to clog up the stencil with more spraypaint and paint more onto 6mm plywood.

Looking good, the frame really sets it off I would try one where Ursus is sat at the bottom of the piece, to lose that straight line.

Yeah, kinda in two minds over the cropping. As the image was made for a guitar and I knew the lower parts wouldn't be seen I was too fussed but now as I paint it onto board as a full image I wish I'd created his elbow too.
