I haven't added much to my collection over the last year or two - a lot of health problems and college bills for my children. But have added two originals over the last month. One by Victor Castillo titled As You Are, a 2014 acrylic on board, and another by Shawn Huckins titled Edgar Allan Poe, Sarcasm Noted from his current show at Foster White Gallery in Seattle (the opening was last night).

Popular media meets popular media out of context. Fairy ornament with Action man knife grafted onto it.

I tried to acquire the large Nouar drawing Just Between Us in 2010 from a show at Copro Gallery, but was late in making my request. As so often happens, the current owner, artist Dan Barry from Austin TX, put it up for sale, and after a seven year wait, I’m going to be adding it to my collection. I think the image is rather fitting for Halloween.

Had an empty frame lying around I bought on the flea market some time agoand I think it fits perfect! From the tube to the wall in one day, must be a new record! Sorry for the crapy picture, but it hangs in the corridor and it is hard to take a good picture.

Me - you knew what you were getting when you bought it. Me - don't worry you only bought it, you didn't draw it. Me - trees gave up their lives for that? Me - a picture of actual crap would more likely make it on my wall. Me - I'm sorry, I don't speak bad art. Me - you're sorry? We're all sorry! Me - imagine what they'll achieve when they get opposable thumbs. Me - I've done craps that have more meaning. Me - well, that's takes average down a couple of notches.

He doesn't like the art and I furnished him a fit occasion because I wrote "crapy picture" instead of "crapy photo"... I don't really care because I buy my art for myself and not to get a thumbs up from the forum. At least some of his answers are indeed funny

I like seeing other people purchases. Many are not things I would not buy but its nice to see still.
Its all down to personal taste.

If its pink my daughter likes it..... I have not encouraged this... it developed from somewhere, despite my discouragement. Personal taste.... changes over time so it must be developed... you can appreciate something in an image, like the skill involved, the composition, the message etc without actually liking it. I suppose I like many banksy pieces, for the message and the thought. I have been shown the execution is scrappy (perhaps deliberately so) but there is one image i'd like on my wall.. if i had a wall big enough.

Difficult to be a U.S. citizen these days. Sometimes I need art that is calming rather than edgy. This George Van Hook oil on canvas titled Walking the Beach fills that need. It goes well with scotch, which is a plus.

Yes. Morningside Gallery in Latham is one of the galleries that represents him, and George has a studio in Cambridge NY. He has a two day sale scheduled after Thanksgiving at his studio (info from an email he sent posted below). If you are interested in joining me for a trip out to meet him, let me know.
Welcome to George Van Hook's Art Holiday Show during Christmas in Cambridge Saturday and Sunday, December 2&3, 2017 10-5pm. Purchase oil and watercolor paintings for your holiday gift giving or personal enjoyment directly from nationally recognized professional artist, George Van Hook. This is a wonderful time to visit the artist's studio and see paintings from his travels around the country this past year. The studio is located at 14 Grove St. Cambridge, NY. Works are also available at: georgevanhookfineartist.com
