To mark 10 years of the Vamos Festival, organisers have commissioned work from a number of talented street artists Brilliant artworks are springing to life on walls across Newcastle as some of the best Latino street artists in the world turn the city into their canvas for the 2015 Vamos Festival. With art, dance, music, film and food events scheduled from June 4 – 14 in Newcastle and North Tyneside, the festival of all that’s great in Spanish and Portugese-speaking culture is celebrating its 10th birthday this year. And to mark the anniversary Vamos – which is also opening a permanent venue in the city centre this year - is welcoming four of the most celebrated international street artists on the planet to create works in the city. Commissions include UK premieres from Mexican artist Bayrol Jimenez and Peruvian star Elliot Tupac, while Brazilian Manoel Quiterio – a former Newcastle resident – has already begun work. Fellow national Ananda Nahu will also be showcasing her ‘funky, fierce and fabulous’ work in the city in a further British premiere. Vamos organiser Nik Barrera said: “We’re very excited by our street art this year – the works by Bayrol and Elliot are both UK premieres. “Bayrol’s work spans mural painting, sculpture and performance and focuses on an ink-drawing style reminiscent of comic-strip panels on a huge scale. “Elliot’s style celebrates the tradition of the Cartel Chica, which transformed grey industrial areas of Lima into colourful murals – both of them have exhibited internationally.” Manoel has already completed several murals in Newcastle, including one at the Toffee Factory, which hosted Vamos inspired fiesta at the weekend that attracted around 3,000 people. vamosfestival.comwww.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/family-kids-news/vamos-festival-2015-street-artists-9341386
