Today, JR launched a new project (in French) and it already made some controversy. Yes, JR, the guy who has studio in New York, Paris and who spend days in NY with De Niro, Pharell, Bono, etc. is launching a stupid project and is asking for people to crowfund it. www.liberation.fr/direct/element/varda-et-jr-comptent-sur-votre-generosite-pour-partir-en-goguette_10072/Fact is that he already fooled us twice with "Women are Heroes" and "Inside Out", made lot of money from people and failed to keep his promises (where are the art centers in Kibera and Rio promised during the "Women are Heroes", where is the money of Inside Out gone (200,000 posters at 20 USD each) and did it really change the world ? It definitely changes JR's world, bigger car, bigger house, bigger celebs... I had suspicion before, but today I can say JR is joke, a guy playing the philanthropic card, nothing else ! À vomir !! |

C215 is upsetting me a little too, because he is ok with English people ( as Dran, Invader, when the come at Pow etc... ) , but with French artists or critics he is a bit pretentiousness, and in the graffiti French world a lot does not like him because his is hautun with them ( under if he looks cool ) ... In an interview , he compares himself to" Soulages or Picasso and claims that socio-cultural activities with children is a shabby activity... " And a lot of things But I have not to talk, nor to write as this and I am very very sorry... ( I won't take off my post because I assume , should I anyway ? I can ) All apologizes |

Wow. so the guy is a cunt, a poseur, a thief etc...did I miss the memo on artist etiquette ?
I too can't help but cringe when I see JR's celeb shots on his IG as someone mentioned here, and his polished PR and his nice boy attitude with the 500 dollar shades etc...but honestly JR the person does not interest me very much, I really could not care less about how he wants to live his life, and who am I to say what he should be doing
What I care about is his art and artistic process, and frankly from Les Bosquets, to his middle East side by side portraits, to his African Indian and Latin American portraits of women, Cuba, wrinkles of city etc etc I truly admire him as an artist and I think there is more to it than organise PR stints and making a ton of moolah off the back of poor unsuspecting fans
The rest, who cares ? Artists have mostly always been twats, that doesn't make them less of an artist

More and more artists are using crowdsourcing now, including very wealthy and successful ones. It takes a lot of the financial risk away from them.
I'm all for crowdsourcing, but I'm not especially fond of the ones that are basically just selling their product. There's a difference between using it to raise money to create something that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do, and using it to primarily sell your product, with little or no financial burden to yourself.
Artists using it to create art is great. Using it to sell art is something else.
I'm probably not making sense. Anyway, in the spirit of this morning's posts, I shall call myself a cunt and bid you all a good morning.

C215 is clearly not having the JR's attitude; in fact, I am pretty sure he hates such attitude (remember the "andouillettes et saucissons of Paris") and he is not an hypocrite mingling with celebs. This said, he clearly has a temper and he is a stubborn man... just like me  Old story, he insulted me online, by email, called me troll or deranged, stalker, etc. What a man !! And since I am as stubborn as him (and I guess as cool as him), I wrote to him last month but no reply. So the "get to know him" tentative and request for lifting of the ban was a flop. |

C215 is clearly not having the JR's attitude; in fact, I am pretty sure he hates such attitude (remember the "andouillettes et saucissons of Paris") and he is not an hypocrite mingling with celebs. So the "get to know him" tentative and request for lifting of the ban was a flop. @thebigboss, je me rappelle que Christian m'en avait parle a l'epoque ;-) Sans vouloir mettre des mots dans sa bouche je pense qu'il n'a pas repondu tout simplement par souci de ne plus trop perdre son temps dans des debats sans fin sur les reseaux sociaux, rien de personnel contre toi (ton email est plutot mesure ...), juste qu'il aurait alors du repondre a tout ceux qui lui demandaient des comptes ;-) Probablement plus intelligent de sa part de se re-centrer sur son travail que tu apprecies a sa juste valeur. J'ai donc écouté ces conseils, j'ai fermé mes blogs politiques et j'ai également lâché toutes les autres histoires pour lesquelles je me bâtais. Je pense qu'elle a eu raison, le bonheur de soi même et le bonheur familial est le plus important, je ne suis pas un activiste, je ne peux pas me le permettre.
