They should have called it "art for seagulls"
It seems this is just fund raising for the art, no restoration / refurbishment / reuse of the forts ?
Or did I get this wrong ?

I think some concerns had been raised in an attempt to stop them painting these historic structures, even though they appear to have had permission from all the relevant authorities.
See his post below...
"There have been some bogus claims that we never had permission for our project. This is FALSE. We have had permission from The Project Redsand Trust and the English Heritage Foundation for 4 years now and have been working closely to make sure that our project meets their approval. We even have Robin Adcroft, the Project Redsand Chairman on camera talking about how excited he is to see my murals on the forts. The project is only now back 'in review' thanks to a few vocal detractors. Our Project Redsand Permission letter is posted to our Facebook Page and our website.
We feel that our project is being held hostage by a small group of opportunists and a small number individuals that see any kind of spray paint art as ‘graffiti vandalism’. Cast aside your art criticism and please realize that the Painted Oceans project brings the most significant help these beautiful structures have had SINCE they were decommissioned. To those of you with genuine concern for the long term preservation of these fort - we are with you. Painted Oceans is A significant step towards that goal. To make that step we need others of vision to add their voices to ours.

I wonder what agreement was actually reached between the trustees and Tristan? Because it didn't look like they were both on the same page regarding the project.
These were the kind of posts they were putting on their FB page. They come across as non-committal and I think they received some flack from people, both informed and mis/uninformed.
Project Redsand January 27 · Painted Oceans Murals Project
Project Redsand has received a large number of comments about the proposal to place a mural installation on the Redsand Towers. This proposal is being carefully considered by the Trustees who very much welcome your opinions on the matter.
The Trust is in discussion about the proposals so nothing is yet set in stone. The mural artists are somewhat premature in publicising their initiative.
These murals would be a temporary installation until work commences on the restoration of the entire Fort. The initiative is to raise funds for very urgent repairs and maintenance as we now have an accelerating rate of deterioration. The extensive publicity generated will also raise awareness of the plight of these structures which are in urgent need of serious finance.
AND...
Project Redsand Project Redsand will make a statement about Painted Oceans only when a satisfactory offer has been received. A public consultation will be carried out alongside discussions with Historic England before a final decision is reached.
The Trust would like to thank everyone for their valued comments and objections to the proposals. Your concerns are being taken seriously.
Project Redsand welcomes any ideas, however straightforward or bizarre which could enable the proper conservation of this Sea Fort, further its life span by careful restoration and not least, spread knowledge of the Forts history and purpose, most especially to the young folk, the potential caretakers of the future. The Trust would like them to inherit a cared for and admired part of our heritage, not a wreck or a faded mural display.

It's worth going to the Project Redsands FB page and reading through the posts and comments on the January 27th post, particularly the ones from Tristan.

It was badly handled. I'm not sure who by though. Project Redsands and Painted Oceans never seemed united on this project.
