There will be an announcement today to the mailing list.
Lazarides Editions are pleased to introduce a new body of work by London-based stencil artist Penny.
After graduating from Central Saint Martins the former graphic designer has developed his meticulous spray painting technique by intricately cutting layer upon layer of illustrative stencils. Inspired by the work of Chuck Close the emerging artist employs a multifaceted approach to his work in order to achieve an impressive level of detail and precision. His practice extends beyond stencilling to encompass a comprehensive breadth of works on paper and more recently taxidermy.
Penny's upcoming Smash and Grab release will include both £50 and £10 editions, featuring spray painted ten-layer hand cut stencils on each. The upcoming release will follow the artist's hugely popular Heist and Pop Culture series and continues to push the crudest mediums to achieve impressive results. Penny compares his mixed-media work on legal tender to graffiti on the street, transforming and re-surfacing a public medium whilst questioning ideas of ownership and authority. Focusing on the public's constant love/hate relationship with money, Penny highlights parallels between popular culture and a nation's cultural history associated with currency.
Lazarides Editions at the Mondrian London will host an exclusive in-store release of Penny's Smash and Grab editions on Friday 1st May. The release will be accompanied by a unique showcase of the artist's original studio materials and stencils.
Further details regarding the event will be announced via our mailing list on Monday 27th April.
