Hi all, its with great pleasure to announce my latest screen print release Karl Read "Dreamer" through Bottleneck Gallery this Friday 15th @12pm Eastern Time, 5pm BST (London) 9am PDT (Los Angeles) I loved painting this piece in Bristol @ Upfest this summer and am really pleased how this has turned out. Okay whilst I like the concept that we all need support to fly metaphorically, (although the title suggests a more stilted meaning), and the image is clean and clear...if I had a needle on a dial assessing this piece it would err closer to brainwash than banksy. It's an image for an opinion piece in the guardian on schooling or the boys room of a young couple ... more than that? No.

No. Hmm, definitely wasn't trying to be anything like Brainwash or Banksy for that matter. Thanks for taking the time to post though, i do like to hear peoples opinions on what they think my images mean. I guess for some they might not mean much but every image that i have ever created always has a meaning to me, hopefully others can either identify or come up with the own meaning of some sort. This piece was inspired by my son, a simple day at the park with him and seeing he was pretending to fly on the swing. It took me back to being care free, pretending, dreaming without any cares in the world, very different to being a "grown-up". As a kid its the kind of thing i would of done, pretending to be a superhero. Having kids has really changed my life and its only having them myself that has made me realise i see them as my superheros now, its weird how they seem to inspire me. I guess most parents feel that about their kids. However if a young couple just want a pretty picture for their little boys room or to hang up in their lounge thats fine with me too. |
