Hi everyone,
Most of you probably already know me, as I have been on the forums (e.g. the Old eBay Forum, Wallkandy, the Faile forum and Banksy.info) since the beginning, but I thought I would also create a thread here to introduce myself and my work.
I work as an art historian and sociologist, and for the past 9 years I have been doing research on street art. After writing a few articles and book chapters, I published my first monograph on the topic in 2014.
The result is a book of 243 pages entitled The Street Art World. I have attached a short description of the book below.
I chose to self-publish rather than going with an established publisher. This also means that I have been distributing the book myself.
I know some of you have already bought a copy. If anyone else is interested, please send a PM on here or send an email to peter.bengtsen@kultur.lu.se. If you want more information about the book, feel free to contact me through the same channels or post in this thread.
Thanks for reading.
In recent years, street art has become embedded in popular culture and received growing attention from the art market and art institutions. Work by street artists has entered galleries, auction houses and museums, and some artists have been given the opportunity to create large-scale sanctioned public art projects. Simultaneously, widespread photographic documentation of street artworks and the circulation of images online have provided artists with a potentially global audience.
Based on studies of everyday interaction among artists, gallerists, collectors, bloggers and street art enthusiasts, The Street Art World investigates the often contradictory attitudes within the street art community towards art history and the institutions of art. The book also deliberates on street art’s connection to the art market and public art. It considers street art’s potential to affect the viewer’s perception of public space, and the possible challenges the increasing digital mediation of street art may pose to bringing this potential to fruition.
