I just used Flight Logistics and I can't recommend them enough. Sophie was my contact, Steve was on vacation during that time. A framed piece was being shipped to me and I was worried that the glass would break. It arrived in one piece and the packing job was excellent. All of my questions/concerns were answered. They also offered the best price. Other companies were double the price of Flight Logistics. I would defiantly use them again.

Got to agree with thisisanton you can't really beat flight logistics in my opinion always priced we'll always deliver and always get back to you and sort anything. Always arrives spot on. Living in China I ship a fair amount over the years and used big companies like Cadogan tate who damaged stuff and then blamed everyone and tried to get out of it. They were very pricey but switched to FL and have never had a problem at all

For those of you that use Flight Logistics outside of the UK, who handles the packaging of the item?

For those of you that use Flight Logistics outside of the UK, who handles the packaging of the item? UK to LA - DHL Took about 6 days. 3 of those days it was stuck in customs. They also use FedEx. But in my case they used DHL because FedEx required too much paperwork for artwork that has a high value insurance.

Curious, do you package the item yourself or do they do it for you? The above posts got me a bit confused

The above posts got me a bit confused As far as im aware flight log have contacts around the world who will take care of packing for you, if you pack it yourself make sure you document every stage of the packing process with photos, even so in regards to insurance if you use a courier ins like dhl/fedex etc and the artwork gets damaged during shipping your chances of getting a payout isnt great because theyll say it wasnt sufficiently well packed, if in doubt hand the work to flight log let them pack and use their in house ins against damage or loss, this is the most expensive route but also the safest.

Expensive piece went 'astray' and to make matters worse it was a pain in the backside to get them to resolve the matter satisfactorily. It involved me doing all the chasing. Safe to say I will avoid in future.

I thought I could join in in this thread, as I spend a lot of time on the north sea and use the met office shipping forecast app, (it's very good) After reading the posts I understand it's got fuck all to do with weather, still a star comes closer

I was giving the pricing for their insurance. £10 for value £500 If the piece is worth £1k insurance is £20 £2k=£40

What's the best method for packing up a 24x24 inch canvas? Bubble wrapped, then cardboard wrapped? Do you think that would suffice?

What's the best method for packing up a 24x24 inch canvas? Bubble wrapped, then cardboard wrapped? Do you think that would suffice? No mate. Never put bubble wrap directly on to a canvas. I will leave little circles all over it. Wrap in acid free paper first. Then the bubble wrap. Corner protectors are a good idea too. And thin ply rather than cardboard if poss.

I unfortunately learned this the hard way. Damn circles.

What's the best method for packing up a 24x24 inch canvas? Bubble wrapped, then cardboard wrapped? Do you think that would suffice? I use glassine paper (available from art shops), as tissue paper can sometimes stick to paint if it's in contact with it for a long time (especially acrylic). Go to a DIY store or your local timber yard and get them to cut some ply board to size (you can get a huge sheet for less than a tenner). Usually the first 10 or so cuts are free. I use one piece of board for each side of the canvas (sandwich it). Than bubble wrap (the big bubble stuff works best). And finally I find some good quality double walled cardboard (try electronic stores, tv packaging works wonders) and I make a custom box. Lots and lots of tape to hold it together (and it also makes it a little waterproof) and you're done. canvas > glassine paper to protect the image side > sandwiched in ply board > layers of bubble wrap > custom box made from double walled cardboard > layer upon layer of tape > you can finish with a waterproof outer layer if you want. never had a problem packing a painting like that, it just takes ages to pack!

Sounds good. Better to be safe than sorry when sending this sort of delicate stuff.
