Based on the pics, coverage that I've seen, there is some truth to his criticism. Much of the work seems to be pretty on the nose.
Ironic, Post Ironic or Meta Ironic art is becoming tiresome for me.
I recognize that Banksy is the contemporary godfather of that particular genre, and Marcel Duschamp would be proud.
The Unicorn by Hirst is very interesting to me. Makes me wonder...

His is critique is and always has been, 'dear lord Banksy appeals to many more people than contemporary art should do, how terrible I need to go wash my hands, I don't understand' |

I was wondering last night whether the place was just going to be shamelessly burgalled, burgalerd, burgelled, burglaryed, burgaled, burgald, robbed over the next few weeks. Such a shame.
Surely PETA could just provide a pack of angry attack dogs which could be given the freedom of the park at night?
Edit: And I was going to say that guy's spelling is shit, but I can't comment. Burgulled? Burguled? FFS.

Had a great time last night, was a huge party and my head is paying for it now. The art was wonderful and one of the best parts of the night was talking to the artists. In particular Shaifa (that's probably spelled wrong, Palestinian artist living in France) was so excited to be there. How Banksy found him he has no idea and he couldn't believe he would be considered in this space. He couldn't stop smiling the entire night, was fantastic. I'm sure there will be critiques of the show. But I thought it was wonderful, full of hidden treasures and in your face art. Plus, the pizza was great |
