I was an official 'Rude Girl' a fully paid up member of The Specials fan club! opps .....showing my age there I agree, but tbh I have a slight preference for the original ska of a decade or so earlier. Toots, liquidators, Desmond decker, Skatalites etc. And earlier Prince Buster. It's as good as music gets imo.

The Specials were responsible for my interest and love of original ska, I got to see quite a few of those artists during the 80's at Scooter rallies. I still 'do the door' for Andy Smith of Portishead fame and Keith Lawrence www.mixcloud.com/keith-lawrence/ .... both have an incredible collection of SKA on original vinyl ...... I'll request a strictly ska show! We've had some great guest DJ's on board including Jerry Dammers, Don Letts, DJ Format, Scott from Boca 45, Scratch Perverts ........ we're currently on the look out for a new venue in London town if there's anyone out there with a venue they'd like us to come lively up Here's a sample of BOOMBOX www.mixcloud.com/keith-lawrence/boombox-pt-2-25714-bussey-building-peckham/

Listen through, as it builds up beautifully. I love it because it sounds like Toots is having so much fun singing it! Quite unlike the majority of the Maytels' work. The organ and guitar is superb too! You may know the song well.

Unfortunately I sold all my badges and old singles of old ska bands. I just have the 2Tones ones I guess.. Maybe I sold them too.., ( funny but Madness was not my preferred band )

Great to see so many ska reggae and 2Tone fans on here! What a great time to live in Coventry johnnyhI never got to actually see many of the 2Tone bands live dodcoquelicot .... I was a bit too young to get in, however I do remember going to the cinema to see this! If I wasn't already late for a meeting I'd stay and watch the whole thing now!

Thank you for the link !! Maybe I'm in ! I was in the concert " live at the Lyceum " of the Specials. The Bodysnatchers were amazing ! Great tune ! On my radio from the Selecter was a great single too I remember, the rooms were full of skinheads , lol ! But no problems for me. Just a French mate coming for one week in London to visit me , got little troubles in the toilets ! He standed up his hands ( as in an hold-up and said to the 5 or six skins : " I have no money, I have no money ..." With his French accent lol ! But not too much violence in these gigs , everybody enjoying first themselves , communion as in a football match, no difference ! The Soecials have done a lot against racism ...

I had the pleasure of meeting Pauline Black quite recently. I knew I was meeting her, so took with me my original pressing 7" of On My Radio. She was kind enough to sign it and dedicate it to me and my boys. She was charming and quite beautiful.
