From what I have been told, diamond dust is made out of mica particles. They work best when light reflects off of them. So matte varnish may neutralize this?! How about applying a acrylic matte medium to the painting (instead of the glue) and than adding the diamond dust. That would mean you get a matte finish. Something like this: www.jacksonsart.com/p10842/Golden_:_FLUID_MATTE_MEDIUM_236ml/product_info.htmlIt goes on milky; it's basically the binder to acrylic paint - it has no pigment so it dries clear. I've been looking to get some ultra fine diamond dust for my work, it's hard to find! I found this product that is supposed to be good; '"Icy Flake" Diamond Dust' www.blumchen.com/craft_shop_mica_glitter_pg2.htmlI guess experimentation is the way to go. Let us know how you get on!

Also, have you considered German glass glitter? It's available in lots of different grits (coarse to extra fine) and in a huge array of colours! It might be worth a look if you're experimenting with new techniques. www.meyer-imports.com/index.php

Thanks for the info I have been using Twinklets from Floracraft, I had trouble finding other types of diamond dust. So that product itself could be part of the problem. Good idea with the matte acrylic. I'll gove that a try whilst waiting for a new order of 'proper' diamond dust

Most people think it's just glitter. You can also try printers who use diamond dust during their printing process, they should have a supplier. I had a look at twinklets, but I prefer the finer diamond dust even though it catches the light less than the big chunks. Keep up the good work, it's an expensive and frustrating hobby. But it's worth all the frustration when you complete a piece you love!

Haha yeah. I've been trying to find the time to spray the remaining lion stencils before starting the next round of cutting. I've been lucky and have people waiting for lions before I've even painted them. I usually spray a couple of a stencil then move on to the next one

Great technique buddy!
See you are having some issues with the paper becoming a bit flimsy, what i and i know quite a few other stencil artists use is a Manilla Card/Stencil Board (can be called other stuff) can get it from Handover or Jacksons in 30x20" sheets i have info on the manufacturer but they have minimums in excess of 500 sheets but Handover & Jacksons are well priced but if you want to know manufacturer feel free to message me bud. Get a A3 printer plenty about print as poster and join together then spray adhesive onto the Manilla (grey board can work as well) and cut through both layers together, the manilla card is coated in linseed oil so paint doesn't seep into it and can be re-used time and again.
Next up, Diamond Dust a.k.a (German) Glitter Glass it's actually the same thing. Just depends on what grain you get (Grit) Meyer import from a factory in Germany the same Factory the printers in the U.K get their product from i actually got their sample booklet through couple days ago shows you the different grit sizes and colours they supply as standard but can make your own to order again, if interested just shoot me across a message. Could be good to set up a thread for materials if other people on here are interested? With the application of the Diamond Dust, PVA is the way to go.
Nice work and keep up the precision stencilling buddy!
edit: Added whats your cutting tool of choice ?
I can't recommend OLFA or Swann Morton highly enough!

I bought a new printer over the weekend, so finally started cutting stencils again. This is 8 x A3 sheets making an A0 sheet.

Just sprayed the first layer of detail on my new stencil. Ignore the patchiness of the canvas version, it is still wet Texture vs detail
