I don't know if this is the right section of the forum for this matter. Please don't hesitate to move it if this fits better in another section.
I wanted to know if any of you has any experience/advice regarding the international shipment of a fragile sculpture. I need to know wether it is possible to ship a box-shaped piece containing fragile elements (like light bulbs), or if that would be too risky. If possible, could you recommend me any courier company/service?
Thanks in advance. Best, Tinku

i was shipped two art deco wall lamps/sconces from the netherlands to the US. each sconce had a thin glass shade that attached to it. i bought them from a reputable lamp restoration guy so i trusted his judgement as to how to ship these sconces. he shipped them regular mail so they came to me through the usps and they arrived undamaged. but the packing job he did for these sconces was amazing.
i can probably fit both sconces very snuggly into an over-sized shoe box. the box that arrived on my doorstep was about three feet square. inside it was full of packing peanuts and another, smaller box. inside that were all the pieces wrapped in bubble wrap, including the glass shades for each sconce.
now i don’t think the post office was extra gentle with my package—the box still arrived with a dent in it’s side. what i think made the difference was how the box was packed. it wasn’t the courier that made the difference, but the guy packing the box. i think you could approach your situation the same way. do what you will with the courier, but make sure that box is packed the best way you know how.
