If you take the street art OUT of the street, is it still "street" art?
Discuss.
Carry on....

If you take the street art OUT of the street, is it still "street" art? Discuss. Carry on.... for me, pieces painted without permission = graffiti (no matter how pretty it is or how popular the artist). if the piece has been done with permission then it's "street art". though plenty of grey area and room for interpretation, of course if an artist known for their street pieces makes something to be displayed inside (galleries, exhibitions, whatever) then they can call it whatever they want to call it.... the general public will call it "street art" or "urban art" because it's the easiest way to explain it but that doesn't mean that's what it is if it's a piece painted outside and brought inside to display or sell against the artist's wishes, it's garbage

Context is everything. Intention is the rest.

I was thinking more along the lines of "You can take the kid out of the ghetto, but you cannot take the ghetto out of the kid." To paraphrase: "You can take the art out of the street, but you cannot take the street out of the art." Now, I do realize that humans are living... vs art which is (unless it's performance) inanimate...
Carry on...

If you take the 'art' out of the street it loses its soul.
