I've visited the Majorelle Gardens and found the colour overpowering, uncomfortable even. Really claustrophobic and breathless. Weird.

I've visited the Majorelle Gardens and found the colour overpowering, uncomfortable even. Really claustrophobic and breathless. Weird. It is odd and compelling how that striking cobalt blue messes with your eyes. I've sat and stared at many a Klein and the visual effect to the viewer is much the same as staring at a rothko or mondrian for a period of time. You begin to see motion and the work takes you to a different place. I love it and Klein is among a handful of personal favorites for my eyes and mind. I wish I could afford something but his work is in the stratosphere. I've been tempted more times than i can count over the past 15 years to add a table bleue for my living room but my wife is hesitant. She's sat beside me on the benches in many a museum and had that flutter effect with her eyes too and said she doesn't want to be tempted to get that same effect by staring at the coffee table while she's lounging on a couch trying to read a book.
