when i see jps i think of jeff hairosol and that other derivative - martin what's on ?

i used to buy many copies of this Cd and give them to people who needed a little light in their lives.

Great record. Of course most everything Beefheart touched was good...or interesting. From the blues of Safe as Milk to whatever(genius or insanity) you want to call Trout Mask Replica there was never a dull Beefheart album. Zappa/Beefheart "Bongo Fury" is utterly brilliant in my opinion. Weirdly catchy. |

I've always quite liked him but he hasn't got/had the best reputation- apparently because of trying to play off the whole banksy thing. Aside from all that I always quite enjoy seeing his stuff, enjoy the humour in his work and technically it always seems pretty decent.

His stuff is often quite decent but, I'm still not keen on buying any due some of the appallingly bad taste images thst he comes out with now and again like the Raul Moat piece.

I felt the same after seeing those, but then I considered that an artist should push the boundaries and provoke reaction. There's too many out there that are happy to trot out the same old safe formula. Some things certainly aren't my 'cup of tea' but I can still respect the desire to challenge and, potentially, offend.  Without turning this thread into a massive argument,I agree with iggy..Im sure there's alot of people who find this image offensive.But I'm also confident there's plenty who will gladly hang this on their living room wall. |

I would hang the Nazi Banksy because it is for me juxtaposing the evil subject and the contrasting beautiful background and in my eyes is not glorifying the subject and has genuine artistic quality. The JPS Moat on the other hand had no wit or message and appeared to just be a tribute to a murderer. Or at least that's what it looked like to me. But of course this is all entirely subjective. |
