When I see "Bomb Hugger," or LIITA, the first thing that comes to my mind is how crappy the stencils are/were. When people rave about how beautiful those two images are, I can't help but shrug. Sure, the concept is brilliant, but the execution is lacking. Discuss.

Both pop on the wall and the over spray on liita is gorgeous to my eyes. The execution is nowhere near his later editions and certainly the hands on each are laughable at times but that's part of the appeal to my eyes. Easy for you to catch the next bus, no harm there.

Struggled myself to get into banksy until a few days ago when sɐǝpı ɟo uoıʇɐɹǝpǝɟ sent me a copy of wall and peace. Think I'd only really seen prints up for sale and a couple of street pieces but the book has opened my eyes

If he was trying to apply a neat, 20-layer stencil image "out in the field", I reckon the police would have ended his career before it had the chance to take off. His stencils have gotten more elaborate though. I like the early stencils though. K.I.S.S.

His stencils have gotten more elaborate though. I like the early stencils though. K.I.S.S. Maybe that was his original intent. I have not seen an authentic print of either image. Perhaps seeing one in person would make me change my mind. However, he has been known to revisit some of his old stencils... I'd be curious if he kept both images *simple* were he to go back to them again.

He's continued to paint chuckers through the years and both images evolved to a point. I haven't seen a new bomb hugger since the advent of PC which is not to suggest they don't exist. The few chuckers he continues to paint are more sophisticated than the print but the most notable differences are in size, medium and background as opposed to stencil. The handful or so that I've seen are largely variations on the stencil that first appeared with that 90cm/sq edition 15 that he did from ghetto '05 through barely legal the following year.

How does the CND print looks like up close? I hear very different stories about the quality of that print..

@json It's a cracking print one of his best in my view. Great image. There is some patchiness in the red but really think that adds to it. It's not vibrant ie the paper is not bright white and the red is not bright red but for me that really suits the piece. I can see why people might say that but for me I think it's a terrific piece and works really well in the way it's printed and screened. It's not a slick production such as CYW but as a piece (not comparing with) looks better for the paper and colours in my view

very much worth bearing in mind that they were intended for the street not for interior decoration
i like the rawness of these works as opposed to the more illustrative donuts and s&s

[ Ha ha It is framed and actually in the "Caught in the Crossfire show" so will be home soon. Due to your question on the print itself wanted to show a pic in it's purest form as it were. So you could see the quality etc and where the red is sort of blemished. Cheers

my guess is the earlier prints were made direct from stencils, whereas the later prints were digitally edited to make them cleaner.... kinda like The Ramones first record vs the Phil Spector produced one... Punk rock always cleans up a bit for the masses
