I've been playing around with some snaps using a HDR app recently. It needs 3 pictures to play. I take a bracketed photo (ie 1 underexposed,1normal & 1 overexposed) & it seems to combine the 3 to make 1 brighter pic with weird effects. Reckon I've a lot more settings to squeeze yet but wondered what people thought of them so far? I've taken an auto shot followed by the processed shot. The angles change a bit during settings change. Love what you've done with the place.

just came across this... unfortunately doesn't let you preview the book www.amazon.com/HDR-Photography-Art-Urban-Exploration/dp/1470930676HDR Photography 'Art In Urban Exploration' By Richard Jones is a Photography Picture Book of abandon architecture, unusual locations, objects & street art. If you are interested in HDR Photography or urban exploration then this book serves as inspiration. Artist Excerpt: "Photography for me is a kind of story telling. I feel that not only do people have stories to share, places and objects also contain a hidden memory, the emotion somewhat personally introspective of ones self. To me abandoned places and objects are in a kind of waiting limbo, the beauty in decay occasionally accented by the colours of graffiti contain moods that I feel HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography accentuates with surreal, hyper realistic renditions. My intention is to share these photographs with you to respectfully ad remembrance to these moments of limbo and the beauty they contain."

There some pretty tripped out images. Love the way the sofa in the last one looks 3d and can almost feel the texture!

Interesting, they certainly look more dimensional – lots more depth of field, detail, texture being picked up. Colours feel a bit over saturated here and there? The mould and stains definitely look smellier – that's a good thing! I like 'em – be good to see more experiments, do you think you could achieve the same with curves in Photoshop?

You can get similar results in Photoshop if you have the RAW image from the camera, then you can change the exposure levels and recombine the changed pictures I think the HDR works really well in these situations mikeydread, I've used it a lot with dedicated software and lightroom plugins and there's always a tendency to over do it a lot of the time and make the picture look fake This is mainly true for landscapes etc but I think for your street photography it works well, especially in the pictures you posted I know some phones have this setting built in to make the images look better and they tend to work rally well as they do the standard HDR technique but they don't blend them in an over the top way like some plugins tend to do Long story short - I think they look great, especially in these indoor conditions where it pulls out the details in dark areas and brings down the bright areas, just watch out for times when it makes the picture look too fake

Yep. Reckon I feel the same as most about them. jkrx I've never used photoshop or any such thing other than instagram filters in the past so just playing around really. Agree with a few about saturation being too strong but these are made with basic settings & there are plenty of ways to tweak them further (if I can be bothered). Regarding sharpness I combined a few shots that were taken slightly out of line. & then I clicked the sharpen button..

I think the settings you're using look good, I'd say keep using this method You know how it works and what to watch out if it gets too unrealistic or saturated so I think you'll be able to manage it and get the most out of it Looks good

I think these work really well The spider picture shows how much detail can be missing between a normal photo and a HDR photo, and the rhino picture shows how much more colour you can show I think HDR can really help in many street art situations, hope to see more

Think it's a really nice effect. Must try and give it a go. Which app are you using for it?
Interesting on the pieces used as you can see some where it works exceptionally well so think as you work with it more will come and even better results gained etc
Good luck with it MD
Lovin the effect on the 5 and the spider. Likewise in the original pics thought as mentioned earlier the hyper realism was cool

I like the spider & the glass 5. Seems to work better for the outside & urbex shots. imo it adds nothing to the gallery shots & may even spoil the pins pieces. Same for the fanakapan canvases. Although I do quiet like the puppets & teacup above. Its going through FOTOR as that what I used to collage pics before insta has its own layout system.

Cheers Mikey well worth exploring but agree not so keen on its canvas effect. Seems to work better as an alternate view of something as opposed to an altered view if that makes sense...!! Likewise on the puppets and teacups gives them a nice edge. Will def give it a go thx for sharing and insight

and yeah i think it works much better for outdoor pics... the gallery shots look a bit blurry to me... maybe the HDR doesn't work as well in lower light situations?

Blurry may be down to me fed. Camera takes a while to take 3 shots so slight movement occurs. Should use a tripod really but it doesnt fit in my pocket.

Hey MickeyD, where's that paste up encrusted building – last 3 pics? Guessing it's in East London somewhere – I'd like to take a closer look. Great pics as usual

i think in these cases the effect really enhances the images. maybe it's because there's so many pieces right on top of/next to each other? or because there's a lot of contrast between the light backgrounds and bright colors? whatever it is i love how much these pictures pop, especially the PINS/Toof pic

adman That building is along Brick Lane & affectionately known as Star Yard. It features in a lot of street art shots but does look quite different using hdr. This lot all seem a bit bleachy to me but each to his own eh.

Think your photographs give a great sense of the place – maybe just boost the black? Cheers, A
