Think graffiti in your area can only be a bad thing? Well academics have found that the number of photos of street art shared on social media is linked to rising house prices. The study by the University of Warwick compared the number of photos uploaded, to the cost of London house prices over a 10 year period. Researchers looked at images which had been tagged with a location and uploaded to photograph site Flickr. They found that the higher the number of photographs tagged 'art' had the largest gains in property prices. More generally, our analysis demonstrates that data on our online interactions can provide novel measurements of the environment in which we live. These measurements reveal that the visual environment may affect aspects of our life as crucial as economic development." – REPORT FINDINGS www.itv.com/news/london/2016-05-09/graffiti-may-hold-key-to-house-price-increase/

Pretty interesting this. I was gutted to leave Hackney when we moved further East but lo & behold all the street/urban art moved with and E17 now has a thriving art community and with some pretty heavy hitting artists have done murals/pieces/shows through-out the Walthamstow/Wood St area since i landed in 2013.
And to tally with your article/research piece house prices have gone through the roof here...no way i could afford a place at 2016 prices so i'm lucky i got in when i did!

**RANT ALERT** Sometimes you read on a curtain twitching local forum that some rotter has sprayed FUCK OFF in big black letters over a treasured sanctioned mural. It was me. A social act. I will not be stopped. Remember, humanity will not be happy until the last capitalist is hung with the guts of the last bureaucrat Did you really do that? I am not sure whether to applaud or to cringe... Carry on...
