I was at Al Quoz a few weeks back and noticed El Seed's studio was on the way. Good to hear that it's up open. The Egypt stuff will no doubt be excellent too.

He had just got in there a short while ago. It's in the Al Serkel Abe bit. You have a load of gallery warehouses there and he is in the new extension bit of it if your passing. Or drop me a line and can give you contact

Yep just completely amazing concept. Just superb to see it come to fruition. When I met him a short while ago he explained the whole concept and how hard it had been to plan and get it all together.
He was also quite nervous I think because he had never seen or done anything on such a scale before. The buildings also do not have uniformity etc so took a lot of work and planning
For me he is a stunning artist who is really pushing the boundaries. Such exceptional work just love what he does. He has a new piece for me which he finnished just before he left for Egypt not seen it yet but really looking forward to it

dazarino cheers for that yes does do some lovely work. He is also quite weird in a nice way in that he shy away from shows and the usual circuit. He spends a lot of his time working out side on his projects as well as looking at other mediums such as the sculptured pieces he did just over a year ago and then just doing his commissions. Really one of the real future greats I reckon especially in the Arabic calligraphy worl as well as the street urban world. Not quite sure his true talent is fully recognized by either yet but sure it will be. Really lovely bloke as well absolute pleasure to talk and deal with

I must admit to being a fan for some time now. Also V envious of that JH canvas.
Been loving this project from the start & the scale is astonishing.
Imagine just trying to get the wall permission in the UK.
Headaches to say the least.

I've interviewed eL Seed before - covering his work and the calligraff bléd'art wildstyle Hip-hop Arabesque Franglais fusion-chic that's filling canvases and walls across the world. So it was a real shame that I couldn't make the unveiling of his latest project 'Perception' at Art Dubai 2016, accompanied by a talk with Glenn D. Lowry, director of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, at the Global Art Forum held in Dubai. End of term university lectures and a pile of marking kept me grounded in London. I hope my students are happier than Pharrell to have me hang around. Born to Tunisian parents, eL Seed spent his formative years in the suburbs of Paris juggling different cultures, languages, and identities. He channeled these experiences into a form of artistic expression that blends Arabic calligraphy with graffiti - creating a modern art style called Calligraffiti. eL Seed's current project took one year of planning, and showcases the Coptic community of Zaraeeb, in the neighborhood of Mokkatam Mountain in Cairo. Over the course of three weeks, eL Seed and a team of 21 workers created an anamorphic circular piece of artwork that covers more than 50 buildings, visible from only one point on top of the Mokkatam Mountain, looking down onto the city. The image used fluorescent white paint that was illuminated as a finale to the project, for the neighborhood. The Zaraeeb community collect, sort and recycle the daily garbage of Cairo by hand. It's an unfortunate fact that they are perceived by the wider community as being dirty. eL Seed said: "The Zaraeeb community welcomed my team and me as if we were family. It was one of the most amazing human experiences I have ever had. They are generous, honest and strong people. They have been given the name of Zabaleen (the garbage people), but this is not how they perceive themselves. The Zaraeeb community is not poor, but isolated; not marginalized, but pushed away. They are just a reflection of our society. They don't live in the garbage, but from the garbage, and not their garbage, but the garbage of the whole city". eL Seed, seen in the photo above with a baseball cap and specs, used the context of Zaraeeb to question how communities judge and look down on people, and the impact of perceptions on our conscious or unconscious actions. www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/jonathan-aj-wilson/el-seed-street-artist_b_9519854.html

You may have heard of French-Tunisian street artist eL Seed, most recognised for his ‘Perception’ project in the Garbage City settlement of Manshiyat Naser, located in downtown Cairo. The mural, painted across 50 different buildings, can be viewed as a whole only if you stand back and view it from a hillside looking down on the dilapidated houses. You may have also heard that eL Seed left his mark in KL, having painted a ‘calligraffiti’ on the walls facing Wisma Allianz in Lebuh Ampang. We passed by the area recently and were surprised to find that the graffiti has been whitewashed. Now, only faint traces of purple and blue paint are left on the pipes that are attached to the walls. The hidden-in-plain-sight graffiti – which boasted broad strokes, colours, and the Malay adage ‘melentur buluh biar dari rebungnya’ written in Jawi script – was created when eL Seed was in town for the MOCAfest last year. www.timeout.com/kuala-lumpur/blog/el-seeds-graffiti-on-lebuh-ampang-removed-051716-1

eL Seed - Tabula Rasa
A solo exhibition of new works by contemporary Tunisian-French artist, EL Seed. The exhibition sees the launch of Lazinc’s 2019 programme and celebrates the gallery’s first year anniversary at 29 Sackville Street.
eL Seed’s first UK exhibition will showcase a range of acrylic on canvas paintings, which incorporate the artist’s signature style: an adaptation of traditional Arabic calligraphy. Within the intricate compositions, he emphasises the curves and loops of the script removing a layer of legibility and adding mystery to the meaning behind the words he chooses.
From the beginning of his practice, eL Seed has consciously used his art as a tool to build bridges between people, cultures and generations. His work is the result of literary and philosophical research and carries direct significance to the place and community within which they are placed. By presenting works, not only in galleries and institutions, but in public spaces, from the streets of Paris and New York, to the favelas of Rio Di Janeiro and the slums of Cape Town, eL Seed brings societies, cultures and generations together.
‘I truly believe that art is a way to open dialogue. I like to think that my artwork can cut through the boundaries that we place between ourselves; whether physical, cultural or linguistic. My exhibition at Lazinc represents a new style of painting, where I am attempting to break down my thought process into layers. It also asks the audience to question the way they think and how much they have been affected by assumption or misconception.’ – eL Seed
