I took this image of an Envol piece on thursday posted it on instagram and got a like from the artist On Saturday i took this photo the work had been painted over in theory even though it was a white background that was part of the original piece. Anyway i posted the second photo tagging the artist on the left, Envol basically blamed me for posting and tagging, in quiet a direct and unreasonable manner in my opinion, i am only documenting things...Dont shoot the messenger, your thoughts? Baring in mind this is Star Yard London one of the busiest areas in London, even Fanakapans work at Magna donuts has been tagged

If you think artists are happy when when their work gets posted in ruined conditions, your wrong. Why would you provide a platform for the artist who painted partially in Envol's space? It was obvious that Envol's work and the white bits on the left and right are part of his work / space. Every tiny wallbit on this surface is clearly divided by partially existing wall partitions. Envol had every right to message you about this. The Brazilian artist basically were trying to piggy back off his fame. Similar when Falko1 painted one of his elephants at the bottom of the Stik piece that's been there since 2010 on Princelet Street, just off Brick Lane. None of the London based photographers who know the scene posted that image on their social media, why provide exposure for someone who is ignorant and ruins someone else's work? If your work is good enough; people will take the time and effort to track it down. There's enough spaces in London. Obviously if you have no talent you want to put work up in the biggest street art hub on the planet (Shoreditch) as it gets a huge footfall. I am not an art critic but Envol's work is always clean as he's working on it for ages. Just take a look at how he is curating his Instagram which is also of the same esthetics as his street art work: clean and pleasing to the eye. I am not an artist but I can paint similar work that the Brazilian guy did. There is documenting and there is documenting. It's never a good idea to post images like this tagging in the artist whose work got ruined by some toys. x

Yeah I realise this now, I wasn’t intentionally promoting it, in fact I didn’t think at all about it, and I now understand. I wasn’t condoning it but also it’s not me that done it, it should be something taken up with the two artists that had gone over the white background that was an integral part of the work. As I say I understand now

FYI Stik used to call this barnacling. The act of painting a piece close to an established artist in the hope of gaining some of their fame. Happens with Banksy pieces regularly. Danny Minnick managed to get his under perspex alongside the recent Basquiat piece. As for those elephants.... I've never posted a pic of one due to his actions with the Stik piece.

Fuck these precious cunts. If you paint on a wall, don't be surprised if a dog pisses on it.
edit - if it wasn't for instawanka about three people would have seen the work

Difficult one this. I had hoped to catch the Envol piece unadulterated but instead found the extra two pieces as well. Often I won’t post a photo of a badly tagged piece, in this case it was a question of alerting others to the fact that the original piece was no more. I remember talking to Ant Carver last year when he was doing a massive piece on the Shoreditch Art Wall and was astonished at his view that the piece is done at the last brush stroke, after that he wasn’t really bothered. A street artist surely understands the risk of over painting - look at Leake Street, it’s a savage world - caveat artist!

Yep it’s all a bit academic now it’s been posted by other people. I think unfortunately the white borders of the Envol piece were too much of an invitation
