BRIAN ENO'S 'AMBIENT 1: MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS' IS PLAYING ON LOOP AT LONDON CITY AIRPORTmixmag.net/read/brian-enos-ambient-1-music-for-airports-will-be-playing-on-loop-today-at-london-city-airport-/We think it's fair to say that navigating an airports can be a pretty stressful experience but today London City Airport will be playing Brian Eno's pioneering 'Ambient 1: Music for Airports' on loop all day long. To celebrate Eno's seminal LP turning 40 years old, the airport will play the album in full, on repeat, to greet travellers before they jet off. Originally released in March 1978, Eno made the album as he waited for a flight in Cologne Bonn Airport in the 70s. The soothing, melancholic project has been a fan favourite ever since its release and will conjure up a sense of calm and serenity in even the most hectic airport environment. Melanie Burnley the Director of Customer Experience at London City Airport, sums up the airport's plans perfectly: “The anniversary of Brian Eno’s famous work is an apt occasion to play the full album in its intended environment – an airport. It is a subtle album which creates a calm and pleasant ambiance as passengers make their way through to Departures." This isn't the first time London City has dabbled with music in its building though as it became the first airport in the UK to play music in the security area so when you're pranging about your bag getting searched, at least you can do so with soft tones and easy listening. If we could ask one thing though, it's that you do this more than once a year, thanks!

speaking of Eno, this comes out next month MUSIC FOR INSTALLATIONS 9LP VINYL BOX - 12 x 12 rigid box set of 9 LPs containing music from Brian Eno’s installations past, present and future. - 64 Page book containing a brand new essay by Eno plus rare and previously unseen photographs from his various exhibitions from 1997 to the present. - Each album is housed in a beautiful die-cut sleeve designed with long-time collaborator Nick Robertson and all music is guaranteed first time on vinyl. - 50% of the music contained in the box set has never been available in any format and the rest has only ever had very limited cd release direct to consumer release. - Vinyl mastered and cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, London. - 100 % first time on vinyl, strictly limited edition. - Contains download code. “If you think of music as a moving, changing form, and painting as a still form, what I’m trying to do is make very still music and paintings that move. I’m trying to find in both of those forms, the space in between the traditional concept of music and the traditional concept of painting.” Brian Eno Musician, producer, visual artist, thinker and activist Brian Eno first came to international prominence in the early '70s as a founding member of Roxy Music, and immediately followed with a series of critically-praised and influential solo albums. His visionary production includes albums with David Bowie, Talking Heads, Devo, Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, whilst his long list of collaborations includes recordings with John Cale, David Byrne, Grace Jones and James Blake. Less widely discussed although equally notable and arguably even more prolific are his visual experiments with light and video. These are the fertile ground from which so much of his other work has grown, they cover an even longer span of time than his recordings, and have in recent decades paralleled his musical output. These highly-acclaimed works have been exhibited all over the globe - from the Venice Biennale and the Marble Palace in St. Petersburg to Beijing’s Ritan Park and the sails of the Sydney Opera House. ‘Music For Installations’ is a collection of new, rare and previously unreleased tracks, all of which will be available on vinyl for the first time. All of the material was recorded by Eno for use in his installations covering the period from 1986 until the present (and beyond). Over this time he has emerged as the leading exponent of generative music worldwide and is recognised as one of the foremost audio-visual installation artists of his time. Designed by Brian and long-time collaborator Nick Robertson, this beautifully bound package comes with a 64-page booklet featuring rare and unseen exhibition photographs and a new essay written by Eno.

Love Eno’s work have loads of his music including an earlier box set
He also has some great Ambient and visual apps which are excellent
The box set mentioned for his installations will be interesting. His installations are amazing to see and if you get the chance are well worth seeing

I was working a documentary and got to work with and hang out with Eno.
We met up with him at the Moog Factory in Asheville NC. The place was packed with hipsters and faux-artists, I had never met him nor seen him before, so I was expecting some who exuded the artist vibe. I could not pick him out and then I saw this well dressed grandpa who looked nothing like I expected weave his way through the crowd and come up to me and my DP and say hi I’m Brian.
Was a wonderful guy, have nothing but great things to say about him.

It was great to see that amongst people who tried to look the part. You are genius because of what’s in your heart and head, not your fashion sense

So we had the luck of hooking up with him and we also go to run around with the flaming lips as they are gear junkies. I was field producing at the time. If I can dig up a link I will post.
