Just got an email for a new print by pez released through Graffitiprints. The special thing about this print is that it has some kind of code in it which makes you see things happening in the picture when you look at it through a smartphone. The technology behind it is called "augmented reality art". I had absolutely no idea that something like this existed and I'm not sure now what I think about it. Still looking through examples I can find online and trying to decide if it is a good thing or not... As long as this is in progress, I would love to know what you guys think about that. Did you know about that? Did somebody already see such a piece of art in reality? Or maybe has something like that already at home? What do you think about this?

Wow! You already used it! Really like the way how you used it! Definitely one of the best examples I've seen so far. Let me question you some things I didn't get yet: does the app recognize the picture or is there a hidden code anywhere? Like qr or sth? And the things shown through the app are made by computer or did you stencil that stuff too and took a picture? Sorry, still trying to understand the whole thing...

Thanks mate The app uses a single image as a reference, and when it 'sees' this through the camera it starts playing the stored video on top (and sizes it as the phone moves) The reference image can be anything - mine is the main canvas The video that it plays can also be anything, with different transparencies etc For my video I just made the underwater view on the PC and then faded the water layer in and out over a few hundred frames to make the video

Thanks for the explanation! I now think that it is a funny gimmick which works well on exhibitions if it is not overused. Can't imagine having such stuff at home... "you must use a app to see what is going on" But as said, I haven't seen it in real life but I'm now looking forward to see it. Maybe I'll change my mind after that.

Ive got a couple of prints by INSA that when you view them through his GIF-fiti app it plays a video on top of the image. I think its pretty cool & when I show friends & guest they are normally quite impressed with how it works. http://instagr.am/p/BXsoG1DhwPu
