I’m going there, mid March. A few days in Camps Bay and then Stellenbosch and Franshoek. I’ve not been before. Any suggestions beyond Robin Island and the penguins? Was gonna swim with sharks but decided I’d rather spend an afternoon eating good food and drinking good wine. There’s cricket on so I’ll be spending an evening at Newlands. Thoughts? Ta.

It all depends on what you're into.
Things worth checking out imo include cape point/cape of good hope, table mountain (although when we were there tourists were advised to take the cable car as people who hiked were being mugged on a regular basis), V&A waterfront, whale watching (although you can sometimes just view whales from the coast - without the need for a boat trip), hiking devil's peak, various wine tastings.
Discounting the swimming with sharks isn't a bad idea as it is very weather dependent. We allowed a few days when we were there in the hope that a window would appear in that time.
Have fun.

Cheers for that. My number one reason for going to SA is very simple - I’m too old for jet lag. It hurts. HURTS! Most of my hiking is between vintners and purveyors of tasty comestibles. I find animals are a lot like sporting events, much more accessible and interesting on the telly with accompanying professional analysis. So, I guess I’m looking for art, food and booze recommendations. And music. Did you see sharks?

Flying, in general, always reminds me (in a super concentrated way) of how inconsiderate and annoying most people are. Yes, saw sharks. Pretty cool. The smell of the chum is, strangely, the most vivid memory of the day. Kind of like a gas leak. Edit - do yourself a favour and visit a 'Mugg & Bean' while you're there and sample the lemon meringue pie.
