Figure we'd use this thread for Bonhams auctions: Will kick it off with the upcoming sale June 15th Banksy (British, born 1975) Balloon Girl Screenprint in colours, 2004, on wove, signed, dated and numbered 79/150 in pencil, published by Pictures on Walls, London, the full sheet, 653 x 592mm (25 5/8 x 23 1/4in)(SH) www.bonhams.com/auctions/22934/preview_lot/4843628/Keep It Real 2002 signed in stencil on the turnover edge stencil spray paint on canvas 51 by 40.5 cm. 20 1/16 by 16 in. www.bonhams.com/auctions/22850/preview_lot/4833593/

I really like that Keep it Real even avoiding the feet like the print. I presume that is unsigned (not that it makes one bit of difference to me) despite the (somewhat) misleading lot notes. IE the COA would read unsigned for whomever that information matters.

I understand with prints people liking the idea of it being physically marked by the artist but an ogs an og...

From what I have seen all PC originals are either stencil signed on the front, back, canvas side or hand signed on the reverse.

I'm certain what Bonhams is attempting to communicate is what Christie's and Sotheby's both refer to as "stenciled/tagged on the over flap" which we all know means it has the block stencil Banksy down the right hand side (occasionally the left) of the canvas. But it is clearly painted and anything but a signature in the traditional sense which might be confusing to anyone who hasn't followed this artist long term. I can appreciate why an auction house might be vague using the term signature in such a manner, but i don't agree with it.

Says signed in stencil on the reverse... No it doesn't. It says 'stencil on the turnover edge'. Yes, I just remember it said it was signed and didn't bother to look back at the listing.. my bad. Have never seen anyone use the term "turnover edge". Well I think we all can agree it's stencil signed somewhere LOL.

Agree think the reason is a lot of his canvas although have the block stencil on the side do also have an actual signature on the back. Must say not that it matters in my opinion on a work like this but think for them there is a marked difference in the stencil as opposed to an actual signature it would also be very wrong of them to imply it was a standard sig etc Really tasty piece

Nothing in the Christie's evening sale (day is not out yet). Bonhams just put out their sale for july which has a pair of Banksy's that should do well. Keep it real monkey sans feet that i like a lot: www.bonhams.com/auctions/22850/lot/20/and umbrella rat : www.bonhams.com/auctions/22850/lot/43/I'm guessing that only 2 or 3 of those rats were ever even painted of the 25 because i have never seen another one on the secondary market.

1st July Results:Keep It Real - £110,000 / £134,500 Rat With Umbrella - £55,000 / £68,500 Great results for Banksy sellers, there doesn't seem to be any let up in demand for his work. The Rat with Umbrella is in an edition of 25 and still sold for £68k. The Keep It Real piece is awesome and I'm not surprised it sold for £134k, same price as the Flower Chucker at Phillips yesterday. Conor Harrington didn't fair as well.

Absolutely. Not surprised at all about Keep It Real. Man, I regret the day I turned down a signed HC for £300...

Harrington's weak pieces never sell for that much. I can't even recall a good piece by him going to auction besides the one Laz sold at Bonhams. 1st July Results:Keep It Real - £110,000 / £134,500 Rat With Umbrella - £55,000 / £68,500 Great results for Banksy sellers, there doesn't seem to be any let up in demand for his work.
