Im looking at Europe for my next major vacation and wondered where the best places to visit would be. It can have some art but no too much as the family would shoot me on the spot I want to find the places that locals go for their breaks - i don't want something full of tourists, built-up and over commercialised. I really want to find traditional and authentic places to get a feel of local cultures. Maybe even a little European tour if the 'span' isn't too great Thanks all

I just spent 10 days on Sardinia. Probably one of the best holidays in a long time. That said, with high season coming up, some areas can get crazy busy.

I just landed home from Dubrovnik (Croatia) where I just proposed to my good lady (which she said yes).. But that's my second time there.. Its one of the most beautiful parts of world...
Other places I'd personally recommend:
Dublin Edinburgh Berlin Prague Copenhagen Budapest Florence Krakow
They all have romance drink art culture and architecture

She was lucky enough to have a cocktail party at the Medici palace and a tour of the closed rooms, it is a bucket list level destination

Good old Bristol. It's surprisingly nice at the Harbourside and Clifton.

I really like the idea of Eastern Europe but heard it can be quite dangerous if you venture out of the major cities - is this true ?

Cornwall is a must visit IMO. 94% of visitors are from the U.K, of which 91% are return visitors

most euro cities with any kind of history can be horrendous in the summer- BArca gets 10M a year IIRC- pretty serious for a town of 1.6M
Italy is a nightmare, espedcially venice and Florence in the summer.
The Balierics can be good, but there is alot of shite there as well
Now depening on what yer likes are, I would seriously recommend the Balkans- history/culture and good beers.Croatia is a delight if you have wheels and can find the off the beaten track beacjes and coves. Sarajevo is fascinating and lively, with tons of recent history to make it interesting.Albania is rough an ready, but beautiful and somewhere you are not likely to go to again.Ditto Romania.
I have spent a decent amount of time in the Balkans, so am comfortable with the place- am taking the family to Montengero and bosnia this summer. If you want 6* and flunkies attending to your needs, maybe not for you, but if you want stunningscenery, clear warm waters and snokelling, then the adriatic is a beaut
Closer to home, Northumberland/ West coast of Scotland/ Some of North Wales- you will need wheels to do it properly though.

.... Albania is rough an ready, but beautiful and somewhere you are not likely to go to again..... I have passed through Albania... And I missed the beautiful parts... Thus, my view is skewed. #1 Paris.... My goodness... love that town. All time. #2 London... Even if it takes me an hour to go trough immigration... #3 Prague... Beautiful... Beer is as cheap as it will get anywhere. #4 Krakow... So much history... Too many to mention... I wish I lived in the *old* country.... Carry on.
