I agree, wtf is that bloke doing with that frame thing? no fuckin clue. the whole story is so bizarre. an actor in Ali's corner who taught him the secret punch? reporters wearing bulletproof vests? probably shouldn't have gone down this rabbit hole more: theappendix.net/issues/2013/4/the-phantom-punch

While his Presidency has been far from perfect, I will miss having someone with morals in the White House. This took guts no other President has had Hiroshima memory must never fade, Obama says on historic visitwww.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36394975"Death fell from the sky and the world was changed," Mr Obama said in his address, noting that the bombing had shown that "mankind possessed the means to destroy itself". “"We must have the courage to escape the logic of fear, and pursue a world without them. We may not realize this goal in my lifetime, but persistent effort can roll back the possibility of catastrophe.”

anyone else watching OJ: Made in America? (spoiler - the first episode was brilliant), but here's some interesting supplemental reading: Why 'O.J.: Made in America' might be the first television show to win an OscarIs ESPN’s 7 ½-hour documentary “O.J.: Made in America” a movie or TV? It premiered May 20 in theaters for filmgoers who wanted to experience all 464 minutes in one sitting. On June 11, the first of five episodes debuts on ABC. Will it win an Emmy? An Oscar? Both? With the once-clear lines between movies and TV getting ever-fuzzier, we asked TV critic MARY McNAMARA and film critic KENNETH TURAN to review “Made in America” from their perspectives. It’s just one part of The Blur, a special Los Angeles Times series examining why the medium is no longer the message. www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/la-et-st-oj-made-in-america-tv-review-20160505-snap-htmlstory.html

The Turkish border town of Kilis is home to tens of thousands of refugees who are fleeing war-torn Syria. Last Thursday, it also became the setting for an act of kindness that's gone viral. Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat, just married, decided that instead of spending their families' savings on a banquet for their wedding guests, they would instead donate the money to feed 4,000 refugees in Kilis. The Turkish charity Kimse Yok Mu tweeted two photos of the couple on Monday, and the images quickly spread on Instagram and on Facebook. A spokeswoman for KYM told The Washington Post said that the idea came from the groom's father, Ali Üzümcüoğlu, who is an active volunteer with the organization. Üzümcüoğlu thought that hosting a banquet for family and friends was "unnecessary" when people living "next door" were in need of food. He presented the idea to his son, who agreed. "I’m very happy that he accepted it and they started their new happy journey with such a selfless action," the father said, according to KYM spokeswoman Hatice Avci. The relief organization operates a mobile soup kitchen in Kilis that serves about 4,000 refugees every day. The Turkey-based organization operates in more than 110 countries and has partnered with the United Nations on projects to help Syrian refugees. According to the United Nations, Turkey has hosted more than a million Syrian refugees since the conflict began there in 2011. --- www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2015/08/04/this-just-married-turkish-couple-gave-4000-syrian-refugees-an-incredible-gift/

Holocaust Resistance: The White Rose - A Lesson in DissentPeople began receiving copies of the leaflets in the mail. Students at the University of Hamburg began copying and distributing them. Copies began turning up in different parts of Germany and Austria. Moreover, as Hanser points out, the members of The White Rose did not limit themselves to leaflets. Graffiti began appearing in large letters on streets and buildings all over Munich: “Down with Hitler! . . . Hitler the Mass Murderer!” and “Freiheit! . . . Freiheit! . . . Freedom! . . . Freedom!” www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/rose.html
