Anyone know a good forum or place where I can ask screen printing related questions and get professional answers? I can't seem to find anywhere.

There are some members here who do screen printing themselves. Federation of Ideas ( sɐǝpı ɟo uoıʇɐɹǝpǝɟ ) will surely help you out.

A while back i had plans to build a screen press, Purchased all the components , but that was as far as it got, mainly due to wife moaning at me to sort the garden. I found this video good help, this is the one i am going to be building, (oneday) here is the plans , if interested printingplans.com/

I'm already printing in a studio on a vaccum table. I have questions related to ink mixing/finishes, half tones, positive printing plus many others. The studio techs where I go aren't great.

Here's my "frankenstein" set up. built from a standard Ranar 4x1 press with micro-registration, but customized to fit what I needed. (if you're printing on paper or multiple screens in general, you'll definitely want micro-reg eventually) I built a large table on one station (the one covered with a bunch of crap in the picture) so I can print large prints. I had to built a support system underneath to handle a table so large. I have an even larger table that I can put on there if needed. then I built this second station using bent metal sheeting for printing t-shirts or smaller prints

I've a finish I want to replicate and wondered how it was done. will copy the image somewhere so i can post it.

You know what i didnt even think that a single screen press would do that same job, didnt even think it through. But i was purely planning on printing paper only so this entire set up for me would be pointless, thanks for pointing that out for me. Stupid thing i bought all the components already , least i havent spent the money on the timber i guess.
So i may just use the same setup for a one screen version..
cheers B

But if I don't need a custom color I use Speedball Acrylic. They're surprisingly good and easy to work with Aqua set is stocked at a bunch of places in the UK - check here: www.permaset.com.au/directory/

It's a safe bet to say that most members of this site are interested in printmaking. I've gone as far as considering changing my major in college to printmaking. When I search printmaking jobs I usually only see potions for screen printing clothes, which isn't a bad thing. I was wondering if anyone on here might have advice on the route one must take to create prints for well know artist? I'm thinking of the print shops like graffiti prints, Popinked, lazarides, and others.

I've definitely found most printers to be very friendly and happy to talk about their methods

I haven't though of an apprenticeship as most my time is caught up with school. I should definitely look that option up. I should also note that I receive the GI Bill so going to school is pretty much the way I make a living for now. I'm from the Atlanta Area and we have The Printmakers Studio of Atlanta that offers classes and had some great advice on flattening my prints when I started collecting, I should probably hit them up. Thanks for the advice and jogging my memory.

Thanks for the advice and jogging my memory. if you're looking for some advice on separations or technicque, I can get you in touch with a couple of printers who've guided me in the past. none in your area though but theyve been plenty helpful via email. also worth it to take some of the skillshare classes online also, if you're looking to make a career out of it, have you given any thought to moving? you'd have more options if you were in a larger city one last thing - don't know much about Atlanta, but I'd assume there are tons of screenprinting shops, even if they're just mostly printing apparel. the skills involved mirror those in art printing in many ways, so don't discount learning there
