I live in a racially and culturally diverse city, but like most American cities, the majority of our elected officials are old white men (though that is slowly changing, as we now have a female Mayor and Afrcan-American DA). It's always been a blue-collar city (in fact across the river is literally The Collar City). Historically, the city goes back before the US was independent, and is home to some proud parts of history - The Underground Railroad, Herman Melville, and Henry Johnson are some of the best known examples, but also like many old cities, there is a shameful history of slavery, ending in the late 19th century. I'd consider the city itself to be fairly progressive, but there's no denying there's pockets of right-wing, out-of-touch, racially and culturally insensitive areas in parts of the state, especially the further you get away from urban areas. I think that's safe to say about the majority of the US, including yes, the South and Texas.

(historically) 2.What is racism? University students demand philosophers such as Plato and Kant are removed from syllabus because they are white (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2017/01/08/university-students-demand-philosophers-including-plato-kant/) (->https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism .. ..Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity. Today, the use of the term "racism" does not easily fall under a single definition. This is correct?
