Mixed feelings here with this one. I like the piece, but don't see the need for the video alongside it. It would have made it stronger without it. Most of the refugees in the vid show them laughing and I don't see any of them running scared. I personally think that this will not change anyone's views that are opposed to these refugees entering the UK.

The video is very confusing and really makes it come across a bit like a first year A level media project. Where are the sources coming from in the video, is it loads of incidents cobbled together? Lots of questions, which maybe is the point of it. Overall though the piece and video are in my view are pretty poor efforts.

Perhaps the video is used to highlight what has been happening outside the eye of the media. It was only last week that the French police denied using teargas in the camps (despite having used teargas in the camps).
“It’s not in our interest to use teargas unless it’s absolutely necessary to restore public order, and it is never used in the camp itself,”

Just to say : UK , you should open the doors to refugees. And after we will can debate. Why Banksy does not attack your government ?! Who is in the street to shout after UK attitude ?! Who makes strikes ? What about cops ? Are UK cops good ? Which one here or in the country really wants to open the borders to migrants ? They want UK, they don't want France, but they need France to manage 6000 persons more in 6 months ?! I think it's a bit a childish attitude with easy obsessionnal shortcuts ! As for the pic of the kid dead in the Greek sand who made the governments opening the borders and doing the worst thing ever : multiplicate the number of migrants x 10 , and almost all, giving fake hope for thousand of Syrian people still sinking on their boats. Governments are stupid. And each death of a kid is so terribly sad and emotional, whatever , however and wherever it has happened ...
I'm nothing but I try.

i love the placement, and meaning behind the piece, but gotta say he's been getting lazy with his stencils lately... too much use of pre-existing imagery (Steve Jobs, the boat pic, Vermeer, and now Emile Bayard)... wish he'd go back to creating new pieces from scratch

Maybe with his work more mainstream, he probably feels it is more suited to the masses and so gets more media attention.

And the winner of racist, generalising cunt of the week goes to.... You fucking moron. You are truly, truly an ignorant, small minded cunt. A bit fucking bored? Why don't you go watch drone strikes on YouTube, get yourself a little fucking hardon, allow yourself a little penis seepage over people suffering...? Shame on you, you lack fucking humanity. Well done...

I think the UK should bring a boat over, load up the migrants from Calais and bring them over to the UK. Then, when the camp refills itself with a fresh group of migrants, send over another boat and do the same. Repeat for infinity until it organically comes to an end. I think UK taxpayers should pay for this and also pay for the shelter and support of these migrants for as long as they need it.
I think France should allow the camp to grow and expand as much as it wants. I think France should build lovely housing developments for the migrants to live in, paid for by French taxpayers. I think French taxpayers should also pay for the basic needs of these migrants for as long as they need it, until the issue organically ends.
I think the UK, France and their American friends should continue to arm, train and fund the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. I think think the more money the UK, France, and their American allies make off these conflicts, the more money there will be to pay for these migrants, many of whom are escaping the horror of said conflicts or exploitation of their country's resources.
This is all sarcastic, of course. My point is that this issue is far more complicated than "compassion vs. intolerance." The issue of the poor and innocent victims of conflict fleeing their homes in search of a better life elsewhere is only going to get MUCH worse (globally) in the future. How are these wealthy, "first world" countries going to deal with it?
What does Banksy say about that? Since Banksy and Jo Brooks are so keen on getting their message out there, I'm curious what they prescribe as a cure for this issue. It's easy to paint pictures and promote political opinions, it's much harder to actually go a step or two further and offer constructive solutions.
I suppose Banksy figures the politicians and people in power, who have consistently let "him" down, will figure it out in the end.

I don't think either Banksy or Jo could offer a cure for the problem. But what this piece has done via its link is highlight what is going on in the camps because the shockingly poor state of journalism/media/newspapers/televisions/ in this country ( UK ) certainly isn't going to bring it to our attention. All one can do is bring the other side of the story to people's attention. It won't offer an immediate solution, but it will contribute to this growing disconnect between the politicians and people in power now, and one day we may, just may, get a system that works for the benefit of its people as opposed to money.

I'd assume that being a very high earner, Banksy has done pretty well out of the Tory government. Who knows how much Banksy personally donates to this or any cause but he's no doubt a very wealthy man and he could arguably do a lot more publically to help the Calais camp than just ship over a bit of scrap metal from Dismaland.

Better question is, "Why don't the Yanks and Euros stop producing, selling, and using the tools of war to benefit their own financial and political interests?"
We reap what we sow.

I have just voiced my opinion and without looking at polls it's probably the same opinion as the majority of people living in the UK (who are now racist cunts also according to your logic) If it was all rosy to bring them in why haven't the government done so. Not sure of the figures but only 5k applications I read after Xmas an a few hundred let in...? So the entire goverment are racist cunts also? Or just perhaps (rightly) looking at the bigger picture? They could be a little scared of what the outcome would be? Many terrorists amongst them, different religions and values (ie. Okay to go raping women, nye in Cologne) and reluctant to learn western values, will be living off handouts which will hurt the economy, the list goes on. How many are the yanks taking in? What about all the rich gulf states? They all racist cunts also..so that's the whole world being racist cunts..

I think you've answered the question yourself mate...." to benefit their own financial and political interests?" And therein lies the problem. Remove these and we might be able to make a start on improving things. But probably not.

It seems like an impossible situation because the Yanks and Euros are slaves to the money their war and profiteering industries create. The world is hot, crowded, and increasingly violent. It is going to take some severely negative and tragic events to get things going in the other direction. Unfortunately, that will (continue to) harm those who are closest to the brink, so to speak.

I have just voiced my opinion and without looking at polls it's probably the same opinion as the majority of people living in the UK : It must be nice to find solace in the thought that your opinion is shared the majority of people in the UK. Please also bear in mind the average reading age of the UK adult population is known to be that of a 9 year old (serious study, look it up)...kinda puts things in perspectiveIf it was all rosy to bring them in why haven't the government done so. Not sure of the figures but only 5k applications I read after Xmas an a few hundred let in...? I don't think anyone says integration is easy or comfortable especially when our economies are fragile, but that does not mean it is not the right thing to consider when people are faced with such threats they would rather live in that camp than stay home. It also does not mean unconditional acceptance of any person asking to come in.Many terrorists amongst them, different religions and values (ie. Okay to go raping women, nye in Cologne) and reluctant to learn western values . I get the impression that what Still Hate Thatcher is attributing to racism, may in fact be plain ignorance. Granted the two go together well, but I would give you the benefit of doubt and just say you like simple reasoning like "Immigrants raped women = this culture finds it ok to rape women"
Will be living off handouts which will hurt the economy If the people in Calais wanted handouts, they would stay in France. There is no country in the world more generous and lenient with social security, childcare benefits, unemployment benefits, housing benefits etc than France...they would rather live in that dreaded camp than sign up for these benefits because they want a job and a life and they know they have no chance of that in FranceHow many are the yanks taking in? What about all the rich gulf states? They all racist cunts also..so that's the whole world being racist cunts.. Nope, they are just thriving on the general ignorance which can get you elected, and they are driven by geopolitical and economical interest of a handful of Lesters...

They all do illegally though which takes the jobs of normal Brits.

Here's a question:
Let's say you own several acres of land outside a major town or city. You have a home on it, some woods, a small lake, some crops and a well. For the most part, you are self-sufficient and live off the land. One day, a group of people begin setting up tents and living on your land. They catch fish from your lake. They drink water from your well. They light fires using the wood they find in your woods. You ask them nicely to leave, they refuse. You call the police and they say they won't do anything because you don't live within their jurisdiction. Slowly, the group of people becomes larger. It's clear there is no negotiating and there is now strength in their numbers.
What do you do? Do you let them stay? Do you resort to non-lethal means to remove them? Do you kill them?
