Here's a question: Let's say you own several acres of land outside a major town or city. You have a home on it, some woods, a small lake, some crops and a well. For the most part, you are self-sufficient and live off the land. One day, a group of people begin setting up tents and living on your land. They catch fish from your lake. They drink water from your well. They light fires using the wood they find in your woods. You ask them nicely to leave, they refuse. You call the police and they say they won't do anything because you don't live within their jurisdiction. Slowly, the group of people becomes larger. It's clear there is no negotiating and there is now strength in their numbers. What do you do? Do you let them stay? Do you resort to non-lethal means to remove them? Do you kill them? I'd get The Magnificent Seven in...

I'd assume that being a very high earner, Banksy has done pretty well out of the Tory government. Who knows how much Banksy personally donates to this or any cause but he's no doubt a very wealthy man and he could arguably do a lot more publically to help the Calais camp than just ship over a bit of scrap metal from Dismaland. I always love these posts - says a lot about the person writing them.

You say they want a job and a life so they come to UK but when they get to the UK by law they are not allowed to work either? They all do illegally though which takes the jobs of normal Brits.Sigh

Won't learn a new language, insisting on hanging out in "British" pubs, eating "British" food, shopping in "British" goods stores...

The answer is you remain anonymous. If Banksy so wished, he could do an open signed print run for 48 hours to benefit the Calais camp. Chances are he'd get 30 thousand plus orders at say £300 and that's £9m. Then maybe the inhabitants wouldn't need to have to have running battles with the law enforcement. Or the money could pay for lawyers assisting with asylum applications. Clearly charitable giving isn't going to solve everything but it would surely help.

Banksy is more interested in maintaining the "integrity" of the brand than anything else. Banksy isn't really interested in changing anything other than making people who weren't aware of Banksy, aware of Banksy.

I'll play. I will ask some Native Americans and perhaps some aborigines how they feel? Why stop there? The issue is not as simple as it may seem. Carry on.

They want to live in England where the streets are paved with gold.

I'd use non-lethal means to remove them from my property.
That is what I would do. See how easy that was?
For the record, I am staunchly pro-immigration. My profession has always been teaching English as a Second Language, and when overseas, teaching English as a Foreign Language. But I see the issue from both sides of the fence. I'm not going to knock people or label them racist because they have values different from mine. I'm also not going to relate the refugee crisis around the world to the genocide of Native Americans or Indigenous Australian people by an invading force.

He's an artist not the bloody messiah If he sells lots of art and donates the money it won't solve the world's problems, the issue is mentality, he brings the issues to the forefront to a huge audience, makes us consider and reflect, hard to believe he gets criticism on not doing enough. Not surprising he stays anonymous.

Commenting on current controversial events is an easy way to get attention and keep your name in the papers. Celebrities have been doing this as long as there has been celebrity. I am not brainwashed enough to think Banksy is anything but a brand selling something. Sometimes it's a political POV, other times it's a 35K print, Dismaland tickets and tat, or million dollar original. Banksy's best work of art is Banksy. The expert use of guerrilla marketing, product placement, celebrity exploitation, and use of the new media makes it important.

I tire of adult bullshit
We teach our kids good and evil, we teach our kids not to lie and be greedy.
And then we turn round, given some clear evidence of 'bad' occurring and dress up, in its complex, it's us or them, it's ours it's it's it's
Wrong
Just because there's no simple solution, that will make us entirely happy that doesn't mean we let it pass, but it does ...

But I really believe that money is not the issue here. No amount of money will solve this problem. The solution can only be a multilateral political one. It is about who has the political will to deal with this problem in the face of mounting negative public perception. For many politicians, the short term nature of our democratic system means that it can often be career suicide to be seen to be the 'one' who 'conceded ground' or whatever angle the press/media of the day wish to put forward. Unfortunately charity is taking over too much from the nation state... which is sadly the way politics in the UK is going - under Labour and Conservatives. People talk about there are not enough resources to go round. I can tell you if there is not, the reason is again political. When you look at the amount of food we in Europe waste each day...mountains of food fit for human consumption just thrown away...Europe produces too much for even twice the population size...and we hear constantly there is not enough? When the 'Elite' are in jeopardy - guess what - the politicians find Trillions to prop up their trust funds...but moan over pittance to help the most desperate... The running battles with the Law in Calais - are due to the constant demolition and movement/migration of the Jungle since Sangatte closed. Again Political decisions. Banksy is doing what others in positions of influence SHOULD do...I applaud him for that. He doesn't need publicity...he can carry on selling prints for £35k in relative secret until he calls it a day. Some people (not you) think he owes "us" something - why hasn't he sold "his fans" a new print - He has given us all plenty - this scene has pretty much grown from his success. He still puts on free or affordable shows for his fans.

And the winner of racist, generalising cunt of the week goes to.... You fucking moron. You are truly, truly an ignorant, small minded cunt. A bit fucking bored? Why don't you go watch drone strikes on YouTube, get yourself a little fucking hardon, allow yourself a little penis seepage over people suffering...? Shame on you, you lack fucking humanity. Well done... Ah it's the guy that hates thatcher more than ISIS... We could all swear and bring nothing to the table. I have just voiced my opinion and without looking at polls it's probably the same opinion as the majority of people living in the UK (who are now racist cunts also according to your logic) If it was all rosy to bring them in why haven't the government done so. Not sure of the figures but only 5k applications I read after Xmas an a few hundred let in...? So the entire goverment are racist cunts also? Or just perhaps (rightly) looking at the bigger picture? They could be a little scared of what the outcome would be? Many terrorists amongst them, different religions and values (ie. Okay to go raping women, nye in Cologne) and reluctant to learn western values, will be living off handouts which will hurt the economy, the list goes on. How many are the yanks taking in? What about all the rich gulf states? They all racist cunts also..so that's the whole world being racist cunts.. 'Without looking at polls!' Sweet Jesus! Without checking my facts I'm going to generalise and talk shit, and apply the logic and thinking skills of a two year old suffering from foetal alcohol syndrome.

Completely agree Shady, this type of work for me makes Banksy fall into the style of crass Bono political soundbites or in this case imagery. But at least Bono is out there actively campaigning for what he believes in rather than making money off the back of building his brand on this type of stuff. Arguably, U2 would be even more popular if Bono wasn't seen as a bit of a campaigning bell-end. That said many celebs do a lot of positive work for charity but there's a fine line to whether they get more benefit than the cause itself. The anonymity of Banksy seems to give him pretty much a free ride to wade into whatever hot topic he wants with minimal challenge and most people seem to lap it up.
