I always viewed it as a piss take. Parody Warhol, sneak it into a museum, see how long it lasts.

"However, whilst Warhol's Soup Cans appear devoid of any social commentary, merely documenting the ubiquitous banalities inherent in advertising, Banksy's 'Tesco Value Tomato Soup' is undoubtedly a critique of the excesses of consumerism and power of the corporate giants, themes he later addresses in 'Tesco-Pledge Your Alliance'." - Bonhams www.bonhams.com/auctions/16484/lot/49/Despite fucking up the title of Pledge Your Allegiance, does anyone else see this as a critique of the excesses of consumerism? The Tesco value range is the 'most affordable'/cheapest of all - hardly rampant consumerism. Or would they argue it juxtaposes it? lol Also, is Warhol's Soup Cans devoid of social commentary? Just pretty inks on a page? You decide. It could be argued either way. To be honest, I'm more commenting to ask you neve to type 'lol' again, rather than any serious attempt at furthering the discussion... I'll never type lol again if you never type neve again

So, what's the future for bricks and mortar galleries? The swan song can surely be heard. Is it all going to go online? Is it about time artists started commanding a better percentage? In the age of social media, how much longer can physical galleries last? How much longer can online galleries last? Is there a need for a middle person to help themselves to a big slice of cash?

The game is changing. There will be more online galleries and less real physical concrete galleries I believe. but they won't disappear completely. I think the need for physical gallery spaces will maybe more in the shows. Setting up a good exhibition with a good opening night can bring more attention and money than a big update in an online store.

Cheers!

So what do you think will be available from banksy on the pow site in the coming weeks?
More soup? Monkey parliament poster? Di faced tenners? Stickers? Glitter gorilla? Festival? AP prints? Some originals?
Everything pure speculation and in my head everything is possible at the moment... Or is the sale ends today and the soup everything? What do you think?

Let us not turn into people who 'need' such and such. Or who are 'desperate' for so and so. The artists are listed, let's all enjoy the ride.

I think the need for physical gallery spaces will maybe more in the shows. Setting up a good exhibition with a good opening night can bring more attention and money than a big update in an online store. Galleries are like estate agents, pointless without "stock". Having said that I am polarised on the issue (like most things in my life . Point in case: I've had mixed dealings with two US galleries in the last couple of months, professional service and comms from Louis Buhl with bombproof packaging for Revoks print. The "other" gallery showed a complete lack of interest in helping me with a print release after calling and emailing them weeks before a highly anticipated shows launch. All emails went unanswered - my phone call (5 days prior to opening night) was answered and I was told the prints were only available at the opening in NY (I left my email address in the event any went miraculously unsold). They subsequently offered them up to UK based collectors who'd emailed a few days prior to the opening!?!? the irony is that their prints arrived damaged due to piss poor packaging. The galleries that actually give a shit and roll out quality service are the ones that I'm inclined to support. Its disappointing that one of my favourite artists is represented by narrow minded uninterested people and I can only hope that artists will eventually migrate towards better representation. Its either that or set up their own show and represent themselves. i.e.: Carl Cashman mobilising a collective show, something to applaud. To surmise, I expect galleries to look after fans and not treat them as a cash cow. Naive of me?... it's 50/50 at the moment. (let's see how this POW "end of days" plays out)

As posted before, I'm very very happy with with the stuff I already got and don't expect to get much more. My question was more like, what is realistic and what isn't. I personally know POW only through their homepage and have no clue how the store itself looked like. What was hanging and lying there around. I have no idea of things like that. I wanted an other opinion on what could happen. Not begging for something... Thought about my own question again and i think for example that di faced tenners will probably not happen because they never sold them before. Just speculating a little bit around an exciting happening, that's all I wanted. But if there is no interest in this speculation game it is fine for me too
