And this I found truly interesting: A map of 2015 election results compared with England and Wales coalfields.

Have been following this thread and others on UK election, and I find all of this left vs. right debate so fucking farcical...
The evil right wing favour the rich, and the kind left wing favour the common folk ? That is such a fucking joke. If anything it shows how easily gullible people play into the comedia del arte that is moderns politics
The fact based reality is that both left and right parties care about the same thing : themselves, staying in power, and raping the people who elected them.
I have only recently moved back to the UK so could not vote, and I don't know enough about labour and Tories to have a smart opinion about the candidates, so maybe I am completely off base, and if so please educate me..
But when I see so many on here crying over the labour defeat because they "would have done so much for the common folk" and hating the conservatives because "they only favour the rich bankers" I can't help but feel that this is very simplistic reasoning.
The reality in many European countries over the last 30 years, is that the left has been much worse for "the common folk" than the right who are indeed in large favour of the very rich (see "society of lesters"). The left have overall reduced pensions which the mega rich car nothing about, increased unemployment which hits the less skilled and poorest the most, had unfavourable impact on forex which again hits the poorest the most etc...the examples of left wing governments deteriorating the everyday of average Joe are legion
I am not saying the right wing parties are a solution though...
The reality is 1) you don't actually have choice. Politics entertain the illusion of choice, but whether right or left, only politicians win. Society as a whole looses every time 2) believing the left wing parties are a better option for the common folk is a farce. The left do no better for average joe than the right, and history back that's up. 3) taking stock of this reality and saying " there will soon be a riot" is idiotic. The majority of people are poor and fucked over by politicians, yen systematically vote against their best interest (back to point 1) 4) believing you will change anything by rioting only shows again how ignorant you are. If you want change, make it happen. Change what happens in your street, get elected to local council and move up...but that actually takes brains and balls and most people would rather watch TV...which is why this will carry on long after we are all dead
Now back to my bottle of whisky, rant over

Now back to my bottle of whisky, rant over While you may well be right about us all being fucked, no matter who is in power, in terms of wealth creation ( or not ), there are certain differences that make it important who is in power. For example, I doubt if a left wing government would attempt to bring back fox hunting. I'd like to think that a left wing government would not consider scrapping the Human Rights Act. In other words, there are plenty of differences that set the parties apart; and as far as I am concerned scrapping legislation that makes us a more civilised society is not acceptable. And sometimes the opposition is stacked so heavily in favour of the status quo, and the privileged, that the only way of being heard is to get angry.

The sad truth of it is most middle aged men get assimilated and comfortable and don't get angry anymore.

Someone said this on Facebook earlier, pretty much summed it up for me.
"The only person with good intentions to go into the Houses of Parliament was guy Fawkes"

Perhaps the young can afford to be angry and protest? They have time on their side. Throw age, health, career, marriage, kids, mortgage, pension, etc into the mix and then maybe people think they have a lot more to lose by getting on the wrong side of the law (or the government)?

Go check out the sentences last time they rioted. They were slammed to fuck for their actions and a message was well and truly sent. The crushing of the people is not a small thing, its a massive program of considered responses, that are largely aimed at the psyche. Thats were the damage to the collective nature of people has been done. Dividium et Conqurio*

You can be angry and not break the law, throw everything away? You just have to get off your fat arse and do something though.

From today's anti austerity protest in Whitehall. Defiling a war memorial to the memory of women. Interesting given the comments above about the belligerence of the left and the nation's subsequent rejection of their stance. Not that I want a discussion, you understand… I'll leave those that like that kind of thing to do that.

Still, as disrespectful as people may find this (easily removable) bit of paint, the Tories have done far worse in their time. Edit: And let's be fair. Single offensive acts cannot undermine the efforts of protestors that are standing up for what they believe in. In the same way that images of some thug of a copper shoving an innocent man in the back, ultimately killing him, shouldn't be used to undermine the peaceful and just efforts of every other police officer. A bastard is a bastard, but good people can stand apart from them. Despite what the media would like to have us believe.

Whilst I don't agree with that act in itself, I want to live in a country that has the intelligence and peace of mind to govern for all and respects people's anger, not demonises, scaremongers and uses random acts as an example to crush voices that should be heard and have equal presence to those with money that use the 'correct' channels.

I even found myself in the strange position of feeling sorry for UKIP voters. When you go out there in numbers and vote, and still don't feel represented, that can only lead to more frustration, resentment and anger.

This type of 'graffiti' is the most disgusting type of 'art' and should be condemned by our community. The message they have has value but the medium is appalling.

I did too! 3 million votes and one seat , i mean I abhor them but really the third largest party and literally no voice in our so called democracy.

But don't you have to wonder if they would actually fully agree? "They gave their lives for our freedom" Is on a lot of these memorials if i remember it right.

Again goes to show how the system has won, getting to deface what they should be so proud to stand for... Depriving people of critical sense, education, the ability to think, is the real victory of this system. And we are all complacent actors of this farce...makes me fucking sick And that is the 4th bottle this evening so yeah, I'm not feeling too happy

They did indeed give their lives for freedom. They also gave it for the respect, honour and care of others who were in trouble. Not the pointless desecration of a monument to the countries heroe's. This had nothing to do with art, nothing to do with the Tories this is a monument to those that gave their lives in the war. The majority of whom were working class. However these monuments are for all who died and are therefore classless. So there should be no support or understanding for the idiot who did this. You (not you personally) wanna scrawl on the Daily Mail building fine but a monument to the war dead.....I don't think so
